Join the British Embassy’s Pay & Benefits team as a Pay & Benefits Officer supporting the US Network with payroll processing, policy development and stakeholder engagement.

Roles and responsibilities

Assist the Regional Pay and Benefits Manager in managing all payroll activities for posts across the region.

Interface with customers via telephone and email, responding to inquiry and meeting SLAs.

Manage the Pay and Benefits central e‑mail inbox, routing enquiries appropriately.

Compile the Regional Payroll Manual and other key documents.

Support large‑scale projects such as Quarterly Activities Report, Performance Pay, Re‑net exercises.

Serve as backup for the Regional Pay and Benefits Manager when needed.

Provide administrative support as assigned.

Assist the Deputy Head of HR with data collection exercises.

Essential on arrival

Experience in payroll processing, HR functions or data management.

Proven ability to deliver to deadlines and agreed timescales as part of a team.

Ability to handle confidential employee information.

Strong organisational skills and flexibility to adapt priorities quickly.

Proficiency with MS Office, especially Excel.

Language requirements

Proficiency in English.

Experience with financial reporting / payroll reporting.

Experience with ADP.

Location and working pattern Washington, United States – Full‑time, Permanent – 40 hours per week. Standard working pattern with set hours each day; flexible schedule to accommodate payroll deadlines. Hybrid working: office 3 days a week, home 2 days.

Salary and benefits USD 26.56 hourly. Benefits include generous leave, medical insurance, 401(k) matching up to 7%, learning and development programmes and a work/life balance.

Eligibility and work authorisation You must have the right to live and work in the US. If you are not a US citizen, dual US citizen or US Permanent Resident, you must provide proof of eligibility via an Employment Authorisation Document or other relevant document when required.
