Senior Structural Engineer
WSP USA is seeking a highly energetic, self‑motivated, and goal‑oriented Senior Structural Engineer to support our Transportation Facilities Group (TFG) in the New York, NY office. About the Transportation Facilities Group TFG leads and designs projects that support local and regional growth initiatives through small and large transportation projects. Our goal is to team with agency clients and develop solutions to the complex challenge of advancing transportation throughout the region. TFG has over 60 engineers and architects based in New York.
Responsibilities
Lead engineering staff on various task assignments.
Develop structural design details, drawings and specifications, including calculations for new designs, rehabilitation and renovation work.
Produce drawings in REVIT (BIM), AutoCAD, MicroStation and Open Building.
Apply structural software such as STAADPro, RAM Structural System, SAP2000, ETABS and SAFE.
Use Microsoft Excel and Mathcad Prime for structural calculations.
Lead field inspection teams evaluating structural systems of existing buildings.
Coordinate with engineering disciplines and architects in creating design contract documents.
Work within a paperless office environment and remotely when required.
Collaborate with engineers, professionals and infrastructure authorities on federal, state, regional, local and privately‑funded improvement projects.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Transportation facilities: administration buildings, bus depots, shop and maintenance buildings, subway and rail stations, substations.
Vent and utility buildings.
Aviation structures: terminals, concourses, hangers and ancillary support structures.
Resiliency related studies and design.
Parks and recreation centers.
Growth Opportunities
Progress to lead structural engineer level.
Assist in proposal development.
Work on design‑build and other high‑profile projects.
Direct client interaction.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with a focus on structural engineering, or equivalent. Master’s degree highly preferred.
5–7 years of post‑education experience in engineering discipline and prior structural design experience in transportation projects.
PE licensed (NY/NJ) or capable of obtaining a New York State PE license within 1 year.
Knowledge of state and city building codes and industry specifications (IBC, ACI 318, AISC 360, etc.).
Prior experience working with construction documents.
Proficient in STAAD.Pro, SAP2000, ETABS, SAFE, RAM Structural System, Mathcad, Excel or similar design software.
Proficiency in AutoCAD and REVIT; knowledge of MicroStation and Open Building is a plus.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, expressing ideas effectively to engineering and non‑engineering audiences.
Effective self‑leadership, attention to detail, results‑oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities.
Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, comply with company policies.
Excellent communication, writing skills and organization.
Track record of upholding workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Ability to work schedules that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
Preferred Qualifications
Master of Science in Civil Engineering with a focus on structural engineering.
Experience with transportation clients (Amtrak, NYCT, MTA, NJ Transit).
Detailed experience in transportation facility design and rehabilitation.
Knowledge of CSI‑format construction specifications.

Expected Salary : $103,300 – $128,000
