Global Therapeutic Research Lead – Immunology Cambridge, MA • Full‑time – Employee • Base pay range: $208,200.00 – $327,140.00 /yr

Job Description At Takeda, our forward‑looking R&D organization unlocks innovation and delivers transformative therapies worldwide, focusing on gastroenterology, inflammation and immunology. This role leads discovery programs that progress to clinic.

Purpose

Leverage a proven track record to lead at least three discovery programs to clinic within the Gastroenterology and Inflammation Drug Discovery Unit (GI DDU).

Steer at least one or more top‑priority projects with clear, accelerated paths to clinic and substantial clinical and commercial potential.

Mentor and elevate enterprise thinking among global discovery talent.

Build a connected view of projects with strategy, treatment paradigms, and stakeholder alignment across Research, Clinical Development, and Commercial functions.

Create vision and early asset strategy, managing external partnerships to accelerate delivery.

Establish smart, fast, and critical‑path practices, integrating new strategies and industry best practices.

Advise on continuous infusion of new research projects aligned to strategy to sustain a high‑quality IND pipeline.

Accountabilities

Lead and manage one or more ‘Top 10’ programs—from target identification through preclinical development—ensuring strategic alignment and clinical potential.

Own and articulate project strategy in partnership with internal stakeholders.

Contribute to broader portfolio investment strategy, especially within Inflammation and Immunology.

Evaluate and prioritize drug candidates based on scientific, medical, and commercial considerations.

Represent core expertise to cross‑functional teams.

Partner with Clinical and Translational teams to refine asset strategy and ensure alignment with therapeutic area strategy.

Align with commercial team on asset value within the therapeutic area.

Mentor global project members, fostering enterprise thinking and professional growth.

Collaborate with DMPK, Pharmaceutical Sciences, and external partners to drive delivery.

Provide strategic, process, and operational leadership for Top‑10 project delivery.

Encourage a culture of innovation, scientific excellence, and continuous learning within the matrixed team.

Serve as a leading scientific expert for projects and guide decision‑making through data analysis and interpretation.

Stay abreast of advancements in drug discovery, emerging technologies, and industry trends.

Build and maintain relationships with academic institutions, research organizations, and industry partners, serving on external governance committees.

Act as an external ambassador for Takeda’s GI DDU and lead global business development evaluations.

Education & Competencies (Technical and Behavioral)

PhD with 15+ years of experience; MS with 21+ years; BS with 23+ years (expected).

10‑12+ years of industry experience in Immunology/Inflammation and global management in matrix teams.

Extensive experience leading drug discovery teams, preferably in gastroenterology and inflammation.

Deep understanding of discovery process: target identification, hit‑to‑lead, preclinical development.

Proven track record of leading ≥5 discovery projects from inception to candidate nomination.

Major role in ≥3 INDs.

Clinical development experience, especially biologics and multiple modalities.

Inclusive leadership that inspires diverse teams toward ambitious goals.

Proactive, solutions‑oriented engagement across organizational expertise.

Business acumen, regulatory understanding, and commercial insight for specific modalities.

Exceptional communication and presentation skills for complex scientific concepts.

Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Strong problem‑solving and data‑driven decision making.

Experience building and managing strategic partnerships with academia and industry.

Position based in Cambridge, MA – classified as hybrid per Takeda’s work‑policy.
