Wisconsin Community Veterinary Center (WCVC) is a full‑service, nonprofit clinic providing compassionate, high‑quality, and affordable care for companion animals. We’re seeking a Medical Director to lead our medical team and help shape the future of community‑focused veterinary medicine in Madison.

About The Role The Medical Director provides leadership and oversight for all clinical programs—including Surgical Services, Primary Care, Dental Services, Specialty Surgery, and Community Outreach—ensuring exceptional standards of medicine, efficiency, and teamwork. Working closely with the CEO, COO, and department directors, this role guides medical protocols, fosters staff development, and supports the organization’s operational and financial goals. The ideal candidate has hands‑on experience in shelter medicine, high‑volume spay/neuter, and access‑to‑care practice models, and is passionate about balancing quality, compassion, and sustainability in a busy, collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities

Provide medical leadership across all WCVC programs and uphold standards of care.

Supervise and mentor veterinarians; ensure quality patient outcomes and strong communication.

Collaborate with leadership on strategic and financial planning.

Ensure compliance with medical record‑keeping, safety, and regulatory standards.

Promote a culture of Fear Free, inclusive, and client‑centered care.

Qualifications

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or VMD) from an accredited institution.

Current Wisconsin veterinary license, DEA registration, and federal accreditation.

Fear Free Certified or willing to obtain certification within 6 months.

RECOVER CPR certified (BLS/ALS); pain management certification or willing to obtain within 6 months.

Minimum 3 years of clinical experience, with leadership experience strongly preferred.

Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
