Director, FIU – Typology Investigations & Strategic Analysis Western Union is hiring a senior leader to oversee the FIU’s Typology Investigations & Strategic Analysis (TISA) function. The role integrates advanced intelligence tradecraft, proactive collection, and data‑driven controls to identify, investigate, and mitigate complex AML/TF and consumer fraud risks across products and geographies.

Role Responsibilities

Lead high‑impact typology investigations (e.g., terrorist financing, human trafficking, consumer fraud) and ensure rapid triage, rigorous case development, and decisive risk mitigation.

Drive strategic analysis and enterprise mitigation by assessing typology threats at scale and applying structured analytic techniques and threat modeling to inform enterprise‑level mitigation strategies.

Enhance proactive intelligence collection by institutionalizing open‑source intelligence gathering and rapid response to global developments.

Set transaction control strategy for AML and fraud, overseeing design, approval, implementation, and performance of real‑time controls.

Strengthen governance and operational discipline through dashboards, KPIs/KRIs, and oversight mechanisms ensuring audit/exam readiness.

Innovate investigative and analytic methodologies, adopting tools such as Python, Snowflake, automation, and machine learning to expand capacity and improve precision.

Integrate typology intelligence across compliance and risk functions, partnering with regional teams to drive system enhancements and scalable solutions.

Equip and maintain TISA as an enterprise resource, positioning it as the organization’s expert resource for analytics and systems.

Represent FIU internally and externally as a typology and analytic expert with law enforcement, intelligence agencies, and industry forums.

Develop talent and culture by mentoring investigators and analysts, promoting engagement, and fostering inclusive practices.

Role Requirements

Deep experience in AML typology and intelligence methodologies, translating evolving threats into investigations and controls.

Mastery of structured techniques, threat modeling, and pattern recognition, converting fragmented signals into actionable insights.

Proven ability to advance methods and adopt new technologies (e.g., Python, Snowflake, ML) to enhance operational oversight.

Technical fluency with modern data analysis, visualization tools, and compliance case‑management systems.

Strong documentation discipline, audit readiness, and governance experience.

Leadership experience in multi‑jurisdictional teams and cross‑functional collaboration.

Capability to represent FIU to law enforcement, intelligence agencies, and industry forums.

Clear, concise communication skills and aptitude for guiding teams through change.

Preferred Experience / Skills

6–8+ years in retail/consumer financial services or payment services with multiple financial products.

5+ years in a compliance management role focusing on anti‑money laundering responsibilities.

5+ years developing and applying structured analytic techniques and threat modeling in regulated industries.

Deep knowledge of major AML typologies (terrorist financing, human trafficking, organized crime, consumer fraud).

Experience engaging law enforcement and intelligence agencies, including public speaking or executive briefings.

Hands‑on expertise in designing and tuning real‑time transaction controls.

Proficiency in Python, Snowflake/SQL, automation, and dashboards (Power BI/Tableau).

Experience establishing KPIs/KRIs, governance routines, and audit readiness programs.

Success partnering with Technology, Product, Data Science, and Compliance functions.

5+ years managing investigative and analytic teams.

Graduate degree preferred; AML/financial crime certifications (CAMS, CFCS, ACAMS Advanced) a plus.

Salary The base salary range is $165,000 - $180,000 USD per year, with total on‑target compensation including base salary plus long‑term and short‑term incentives aligned with individual and company performance.
