Physician Spv (Medical Director)

Job Summary This position serves as the Medical Director for the Fulton County Board of Health. As a member of the District Senior Leadership Team, this individual serves as a medical consultant across departments and disciplines. The Medical Director develops and leads efforts to assure quality clinical care and services. This role directs and consults with physicians, nurses, aides, and other health care staff in the care and treatment of patients. In addition, this position will provide medical leadership for the laboratory, including training, mentorship, and support to lab clinical staff.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Oversees medical services and provides infectious disease consultation for the Fulton County Board of Health under the supervision of the District Health Director. Collaborates closely with agency and facility Nursing Directors

Serves as the delegating physician for registered nurses (RNs) and advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) practicing under nurse protocols, and as the delegating physician for APRNs practicing under prescriptive authority.

Develops and leads quality assurance and continuous quality improvement efforts across all clinical services.

Serves as a consultant and subject matter expert for infectious disease outbreaks.

Provides medical consultation and leadership across Fulton County Board of Health high-complexity and moderate complexity laboratories.

Supports capacity building by training and guiding clinical staff in areas such as quality improvement, vaccine-preventable diseases, travel vaccines, infectious diseases, health promotion, and public health strategies.

Assists with patient care, prescribes or administers treatments, therapies, medications, vaccinations, and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease, or injury.

Refers patients to medical specialists or other practitioners when appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications Medical degree recognized by the Georgia Composite Medical Board (GCMB) and licensure or license-eligible to practice medicine at a state institution or in the state of Georgia as provided by state law and three (3) years of experience at the lower level Physician 3 (HCP162) or position equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience providing clinical services and using electronic health records

Experience supervising and consulting with nursing staff

Experience developing continuous quality improvement initiatives

Performance Aptitudes Data Utilization: Requires the ability to synthesize, hypothesize, and/or theorize concerning data involving modification of existing policies, strategies, and/or methods to meet unique or unusual conditions. Requires the ability to do so within the context of existing organizational theories and management principles.

Human Interaction: Requires the ability to function in a managerial capacity for a division or organizational unit; includes the ability to make decisions on procedural and technical levels.

Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization: Requires the ability to operate and control the actions of equipment and machinery, requiring the monitoring, adjustment, regulation, and/or setting of multiple conditions.

Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, advisory, and/or design data and information.

Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform moderately complex algebraic and geometric operations; ability to utilize principles of basic probability and statistical inference.

Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or synthesis functions; deal with concrete and abstract variables; and analyze major problems that require complex planning for interrelated activities that can span one or several work units.

Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness, and creativity in critical and/or unexpected situations involving moderate risk to the organization.
