Cardiac Surgeon – Open Rank Clinical Faculty
The University of Virginia Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery invites applications for a full‑time, open‑rank clinical cardiac faculty position. Candidates will be evaluated on the basis of academic rank (tenure or non‑tenure) determined by qualifications and experience. We seek a technically skilled, academically engaged surgeon to join a collaborative, multidisciplinary heart team. The ideal candidate will perform a broad array of advanced cardiac operations, including complex coronary revascularization, structural valve interventions, aortic surgery, cardiac transplantation, and mechanical circulatory support. Expertise in robotic or minimally invasive approaches is especially favorable.
Responsibilities
Perform advanced cardiac surgical procedures across the spectrum of thoracic surgery.
Lead and mentor trainees in a high‑volume teaching environment.
Participate in clinical care within a multidisciplinary heart team.
Contribute to institutional initiatives in cardiovascular services, surgical innovation, and faculty recruitment.
Qualifications
MD with board certification in Thoracic Surgery (American Board of Thoracic Surgery)
Licensed or eligible for licensure to practice in Virginia
Advanced knowledge and experience in cardiac surgery
Demonstrated leadership, teamwork, and communication skills
Strong interest in academic medicine and passion for innovation in cardiothoracic surgery
