The Role The Senior Estimator, National Aviation is responsible for all aspects of estimating the most complex and large‑scale jobs, including pre‑construction, hard bids, negotiated bids, budgets, general conditions, systems studies and comparisons, value engineering, subcontractor relations, and staying abreast of industry developments applicable to estimating. The role encompasses leadership of the estimating team, business development activities, and procurement of subcontractor services.
Responsibilities
Ensure that the estimating process runs smoothly and efficiently, and client expectations are exceeded throughout the duration of the project(s).
Build relationships to understand client, designer and subcontractor needs and expectations.
Facilitate collaboration amongst team members and communicate effectively with all stakeholders.
Manage Assistant Estimators and lead the Estimating team, including MEP Estimators and Career Start team members on projects.
Develop others and act as a subject‑matter expert (SME).
Prepare an in‑house budget and GMP.
Prepare quantity take‑offs and apply unit pricing for material and labor to establish a value for the work.
Understand the full scope of the project through document review and by asking questions of the design team and owner.
Prepare value engineering and risk analysis.
Prepare qualifications and assumptions for the estimate.
Prepare cost comparisons/reconcile with previous estimates; reconcile with outside Estimators.
Lead constructability reviews.
Manage subcontractor solicitation & selection process.
Prepare Exhibit B and/or scope sheets.
Ensure quality control of department bids and estimates.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related field.
Minimum of 8 years of experience in estimating.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in the aviation sector.
Computer skills: working knowledge of Excel spreadsheets, Word processing programs, and estimating software such as Timberline, OST, MC2.
Understanding of the influence of market conditions on pricing.

Working Conditions While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time; talk or hear; perform fine motor, hand and finger skills in the use of a keyboard, telephone, or writing. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The employee will spend their time in an office environment with a quiet to moderate noise level. Job site walking is also expected.

Compensation Information The expected salary range for this position (Senior Estimator) in Boston, MA is between $174,000 and $256,000 (annualized USD). The expected salary range for this position in New York, NY is between $188,000 and $268,000 (annualized USD). These ranges represent the typical salary for this position and are just one component of Suffolk’s total compensation package. Actual salaries may be based on several factors including, but not limited to, skill set, experience, education and other qualifications, including budgetary objectives. Suffolk offers a comprehensive benefits package as part of its overall compensation strategy. Salary ranges may differ by geography and are reviewed regularly to reflect market trends.
