General Manager (Birmingham)
TK Elevator
is seeking an experienced General Manager to lead the Birmingham branch, driving revenue growth and managing the branch’s profit and loss through effective leadership of all departments.
Responsibilities
Supervise department managers and superintendents by providing direction, training, and communicating company policies, procedures, and objectives.
Lead by example the company’s commitment to safety and administer the company safety program.
Ensure the branch’s daily operations run efficiently and cost‑effectively, meeting financial commitments including target EBIT dollars and gross margin percent goals across all lines of business except New Installation.
Manage profit and loss (P&L) and use accounting reports to measure each department’s performance, ensuring monthly budgetary goals are met.
Collaborate with sales managers to expand the customer base.
Oversee retention of service contracts, including direct involvement in all “at risk” customer accounts, and play a leadership role in customer retention programs using NPS scores, processes, tools, and technology.
Develop and maintain strong working relationships with clients, elevator consultants, building owners, managers, and prospects.
Ensure the employee performance process for both union and non‑union employees is performed timely and consistently.
Recommend employee merit increases for non‑union employees and review compensation and bonus structure with employees.
Maintain a strong working knowledge of the overall market area.
Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of all federal, state, and local elevator industry code requirements and a good understanding of employment and labor laws.
Maintain strong familiarity of company products by attending training classes and reviewing factory equipment updates and supplier goods.
Maintain a strong working knowledge of the contract with the International Union of Elevator Constructor, including meeting with local business agents to resolve issues involving contract work, grievances, and union employee issues.
Review and approve invoices, accounts receivable, write‑offs, and credits.
Consult with regional and district teams in operations, sales, accounting, safety, and human resources; coordinate all HR matters with the regional HR team and manage approvals for purchasing, contract execution, contract modifications, and price adjustments.
Qualifications
Thorough knowledge of the elevator industry and general management practices within that industry.
Bachelor’s degree (or an equivalent combination of education and experience) or at least two years’ experience managing on a branch departmental level.
Proven success managing and developing talent within the workforce.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret a wide variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form and handle several abstract and concrete variables.
