Overview The Assistant Camp Director is a senior leadership role supporting the Camp Director in planning, managing, and operating JCC Brooklyn Summer Camp. This position may be full‑time or part‑time, year‑round, with increased on‑site responsibilities during the summer season at Fort Hamilton Army Base.
Key Responsibilities
Support day‑to‑day camp operations and act as Camp Director when needed, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and engaging experience.
Maintain an on‑site presence during camp hours: arrivals, transitions, meals, activities, and dismissal.
Enforce camp policies and safety procedures; respond calmly to challenges, incidents, or parent concerns.
Recruit, interview, hire, onboard, and supervise seasonal staff, providing coaching and support.
Collaborate with the leadership team to develop and deliver daily and weekly programming, including special events and theme days.
Ensure programs are inclusive, adaptable, and developmentally appropriate; work with inclusion staff for diverse needs.
Support camper placement, transitions, and overall wellbeing; address behavioral, emotional, or social challenges with a strengths‑based approach.
Communicate with families via tours, sessions, and correspondence; keep them informed and confident in the camp experience.
During the year work at Kings Bay Y for planning, staffing, scheduling, and logistics; collaborate with HR, facilities, ops, and administration.
Track attendance, staff schedules, and operational needs; uphold documentation and safety compliance; participate in year‑round planning and improvement.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in childhood education, psychology, recreation, or related field.
3‑5 years of camp leadership or youth development experience.
Previous staff supervision in a camp or youth program (strongly preferred).
Experience working with diverse populations and inclusive programming models.
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Flexible working hours, especially during summer season.
Commitment to youth development, safety, inclusion, and community values.
CPR and First Aid certification (required or willingness to obtain before employment).
Salary $55,000
