Senior Software Engineer (Backend) - Billing Platform *Hybrid* Join GEICO as a Senior Software Engineer (Backend) leading the Billing Platform team. You will design, develop, and maintain large‑scale applications and distributed systems that power our core billing platform, covering billing engine, invoicing, commissions, collections, payment processing, CRM integration, subscription management, credit control, dunning, and analytics.

Base pay range $100,000 – $215,000 per year, commensurate with experience and skills.

What You’ll Do A brief overview:

Lead architecture and design for one or more sub‑systems of the billing platform.

Own quality, reliability, usability, and performance of solutions.

Provide strategic guidance and oversight for multiple billing teams, aligning with the platform’s technical vision.

Design and develop complex, scalable, maintainable software systems.

Identify and prioritize technical risks and deliver solutions.

Collaborate with product, design, and other departments for successful delivery.

Facilitate effective communication across teams.

Mentor and guide engineers to foster continuous learning.

Provide technical guidance to help team members overcome challenges.

Minimum Requirements

4+ years of hands‑on software development experience.

Strong experience architecting and designing large‑scale, complex systems.

Proficient coding skills in Java, Kotlin, Golang or a similar language.

Experience with SQL/NoSQL databases, Kafka, Spark, Airflow or equivalents.

Proficiency in cloud computing, DevOps, observability, telemetry, and test automation.

Ability to collaborate across engineering teams and other functions.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in fintech, especially billing, payments, subscription management, and financial reporting.

Track record designing and implementing workflow engines.

Education

Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in CS or related field, or equivalent experience.
