Program Analyst – Berkeley Institute for Data Science (BIDS)
University of California, Berkeley – Full‑time, 50% FTE, 2‑year contract position.

Departmental Overview The Berkeley Institute for Data Science (BIDS) was founded in 2013 to build on Berkeley’s strength in data science with a multidisciplinary emphasis. BIDS facilitates and enhances the development and application of cutting‑edge data science techniques across the biological, physical, social, and engineering sciences. It serves as a hub for interdisciplinary research, tool development, and exchange of ideas between computing, statistics, and AI, and connects with domain experts campus‑wide and nationally.

Responsibilities Responsible for proposing and providing staffing for policy and planning committees, task forces, and working groups to meet the college’s interdisciplinary mission.
Strategically proposes a plan for programmatic and structural needs to promote interdisciplinary collaboration and coordinate with faculty stakeholders.
Performs ad‑hoc analytical studies for faculty committees, preparing materials to maximize committee productivity.
Develops proposals to fund programming in collaboration with college leadership and interdisciplinary centers.
Collaborates with events staff to plan lectures and events, preparing briefings, content, and speaking materials.
Conducts post‑implementation analysis to improve event quality and stakeholder engagement.
Researches and summarizes best practices, develops handbooks, and facilitates staff and faculty objectives.
Monitors and analyzes regulations, legislation, and University policies.
Develops scope of work, budgets, and reports for projects.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Knowledge of common organization or research‑specific computer application programs.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality.
Analytical/problem‑solving skills.
Strong skills in analyzing, researching, and synthesizing large amounts of data for proposals/analyses.
Ability to multi‑task in demanding timeframes.
Strong policy analysis techniques.
Ability to anticipate workflows and prioritize.
Ability to observe group dynamics and assess communication strategies.
Knowledge of faculty and staff roles on campus and University budget concepts.
Bachelor’s degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Salary & Benefits Budgeted salary range: $75,000 – $90,000.
2‑year contract position, eligible to participate in UC Berkeley health and welfare programs. Position is 50% full‑time equivalent.
Other Information This is a two‑year contract position; contract can be extended based on operational demand.
