Role Overview New York Life’s Group Membership Association Division (GMAD) seeks an experienced underwriter to join the Accident and Health team. This position will be primarily accountable for underwriting new and renewal Business Travel Accident (BTA) policies as well as new and renewal Special Risk policies. The position requires extensive knowledge of BTA and Special Risk coverages, benefits, pricing and issuance. This individual will also interact directly with national, regional and specialty Accident and Health brokers along with national and regional salespeople and account managers.

What You’ll Do

Underwriting: Rate and quote new and existing Business Travel Accident and Special Risk accounts.

External Relationships: Maintain and further develop external relationships with brokers and key clients.

Internal Relationships: Work with Account Managers, Salespeople and Senior Management to bring on new Brokers and Managing General Underwriters.

Client Meetings: Attend broker and client meetings with Account Managers, Salespeople, and Senior Management.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with internal teams, including sales, marketing, contracts, actuary and product development, to ensure client’s and broker’s needs are met.

Problem Resolution: Address and resolve any client or broker issues or concerns promptly and effectively.

MGU Oversight: Provide daily oversight of our MGU partners and at least once a year audit their underwriting.

Conferences: Attend industry conference to enhance our brand in the market space.

What You’ll Bring

5+ years BTA underwriting experience

Bachelor’s degree (preferably business or math related) and/or equivalent experience

Knowledge of Special Risk

Recent relationships with BTA and Special Risk brokers

Mastery of manual and experience rating

Proven ability to work independently

Strong analytical & mathematical skills

Excellent verbal & written communication skills

Strong knowledge of Blanket Insurance products

Strong mastery of Excel

Pay Transparency Salary range: $129,500 - $185,000

Overtime eligible: Exempt

Discretionary bonus eligible: Yes

Sales bonus eligible: No

Actual base salary will be determined based on several factors including but not limited to the individual's experience, skills, qualifications, and job location. Employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus and may also be eligible to participate in an incentive program.
