Job Summary / Basic Function: This position supports an academic department with significant and growing student enrollment, faculty headcount, and research activities. The Academic Programming Director for Electrical Engineering supports the program by advising students, managing the academic scheduling, leading retention and recruitment efforts, and collaborating with various stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Academic Advising
(30%): Provides regular academic support and guidance to current and prospective students in the program (Master and PhD). Advises graduate students on program requirements, policies and procedures; counsels on career pathways; certifies completion of degree requirements; serves as primary department contact for prospective students.
Academic Scheduling
(20%): Develops and negotiates class and laboratory schedules with faculty and other academic units; administers hiring of part‑time faculty and GTAs, schedules, assignments; supervises student workers and GTAs.
Academic Program Assessment and Marketing
(20%): Prepares portions of program self‑assessment documents; collects and aggregates inputs from faculty; monitors and reports enrollment data; coordinates collection of materials describing academic and research programs; supervises development and distribution of marketing materials and activities; assists in maintenance of web page and social media content.
Academic Outreach and Collaboration
(10%): Leads student retention and recruitment; coordinates departmental education and research outreach programs; collaborates with University Center of International Education, Graduate School, Raider Connect and other colleges; assists pre‑departure and entry interview for sponsored students; collaborates with Career Services; collaborates with international student organizations.
Program Support
(15%): Collaborates with college and university units to assist transfer students, international students, high school recruitment efforts, open houses, and career and co‑op services; enforces academic integrity policies; purchases office supplies.
International Student Engagement
(5%): Assists with immigration and admission requirements; develops relationships with current international students; participates in orientation and CECS representation; assists students to navigate support services; plans workshops and panels; offers support services to ensure academic success of international students.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree and 3 years related experience
Experience in student or academic functions
Proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet software
Demonstrated experience building collaborative relationships
Excellent interpersonal communication skills, oral and written
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a STEM field
Understanding of higher education issues relevant to electrical engineering
Experience with university systems for workflow and learning management such as Banner, uAchieve, and Pilot
Scheduling experience
Management experience
Working Conditions Typical office environment. Some evenings and weekends may be required. Background checks are required for all positions.
