The Senior Maintenance Director oversees and coordinates the maintenance operations of bus, paratransit, and shuttle services across designated regions. The role ensures strategic alignment of maintenance practices, drives performance improvement initiatives, and champions safety and reliability across all maintenance activities.
Compensation & Benefits
Competitive salary: $153,000–$180,000 per year
Vacation: minimum 2 weeks
Sick days: 5 days
Holidays: 12 days (8 standard, 4 floating)

Key Responsibilities
Provide strategic direction and leadership for maintenance operations across multiple regions; align strategies with business objectives.
Establish, monitor, and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) for vehicle reliability, safety, and cost management.
Develop and enforce safety protocols; lead initiatives to improve reliability and reduce breakdowns.
Identify and implement best‑practice and continuous improvement initiatives; lead large‑scale projects to modernize operations.
Oversee maintenance budgets and identify cost optimization opportunities.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including senior management, clients, and regulatory bodies.
Lead talent development, provide training, and develop succession plans for maintenance leadership roles.
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, conduct audits and inspections.
Promote adoption of new technologies and advanced maintenance management systems.
Develop and implement crisis‑management plans; lead response to major incidents.
Drive sustainability initiatives to reduce environmental impact.
Lead establishment and zero‑cost closure of maintenance departments.
Perform other duties as required.
Education, Licensing, and Certifications
High school diploma or equivalent (GED); Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Experience
12+ years of progressively responsible experience in repair and maintenance of automotive and transit equipment.
Experience managing people, teams, and projects.
Knowledge of operational KPIs and P&L components.
3+ years of multi‑site responsibility.
Skills and Knowledge Required
Expert knowledge of maintenance for public transportation vehicles.
Ability to lead change and drive performance through matrixed reporting.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Ability to read, interpret, and implement safety rules and manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Preferred Skills and Knowledge
Knowledge of JDE, Tango, Hexagon, and RTA.
Travel
70–80% travel outside the immediate area.
Pre‑Employment Requirements

Testing related to job requirements.
Physical Requirements
Work flexible or shift schedules; stand, walk, use hands, reach, talk, and hear.
Sit regularly.
Occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and smell.
