Job Summary The Director of Pharmacy is a senior leader responsible for operational effectiveness, financial management, and budget oversight of the Pharmacy unit. The director ensures efficient drug storage and preparation, adherence to accreditation and certification requirements, and compliance with all applicable policies and standards.

Essential Functions

Possess extensive experience with The Joint Commission.

Fulfill requirements set by the Senior Leadership Team and Board Directors.

Encourage professionalism, productivity, performance, and efficiency of pharmacy staff.

Enhance patient care and satisfaction.

Maintain consistent communication with nurses and physicians.

Conduct timely evaluations of pharmacy staff, including annual reviews.

Confirm correct and timely payroll approval by direct reports.

Delegate assignments and committee appointments for pharmacy staff.

Develop policies, procedures, and protocols for pharmacy staff.

Handle incident and/or accident reports properly.

Provide supervision and coaching for pharmacy staff.

Set short‑ and long‑term strategic goals for pharmacy development.

Create annual budget for operations and capital.

Participate in the hiring process for pharmacy positions.

Coordinate pharmacy staff training (initial orientation and ongoing development).

Facilitate corrective and disciplinary actions of pharmacy staff.

Initiate and implement quality improvement projects in the pharmacy department.

Develop and maintain a medical staff‑approved formulary.

Supervise medication storage and preparation areas across the facility.

Implement safe medication‑use processes across the organization.

Ensure adequate medication supply and integrity.

Control and document controlled substances.

Maintain lean pharmacy standards in workflow.

Oversee records of all pharmacy transactions for accountability.

Respond to clinical questions regarding patient care or formulary decisions.

Participate in required committees (e.g., Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee).

Attend management and senior leadership meetings.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Handle PHI consistently with HIPAA.

Use Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint proficiently.

Demonstrate superior interpersonal skills and detail orientation.

Report to supervisors and adhere to work schedule.

Manage stress while maintaining composure.

Maintain current pharmacist licensure and professional competence.

Perform staff pharmacist duties when needed.

Follow TRMC vaccine policy(s) mandated by CMS.

Work Experience

At least 6 years as a staff or clinical pharmacist (state of Texas preferred).

1 to 3 years of managerial experience preferred.

Experience collaborating with and educating diverse healthcare team members preferred.

Education

Registered Pharmacist in good standing with the State Board of Pharmacy (required).

Doctor of Pharmacy or Bachelor of Science (required).
