Position Summary The Department of Civil, Materials, and Environmental Engineering (CME) welcomes applications for a full‑time non‑tenure‑track faculty position (lecturer or clinical) beginning August 16, 2026. The successful candidate will teach Engineering Surveying, Engineering Drawing and Design, and other required civil engineering service courses. The ideal candidate will complement the department’s instructional strengths by offering required service courses and bring proven excellence as an instructor of record in an ABET‑accredited civil engineering program. Candidates must hold a PhD in Civil Engineering or a closely related field by the start date and be a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or demonstrate progress toward licensure. A minimum of five years of professional experience is preferred. The faculty member is expected to be an excellent instructor, interface with industry and professional organizations to support the program, and provide service to the university and the profession. Prior teaching experience in an ABET‑accredited civil engineering curriculum is required.

The CME Department offers a vibrant program with BS in Environmental Engineering, BS, MS, and PhD in Civil Engineering, and MS and PhD in Materials Engineering. Undergraduate enrollment is approximately 480 and graduate enrollment about 170. The Department’s faculty are active in interdisciplinary research. The UIC College of Engineering has experienced rapid growth, with faculty size and research expenditures doubling, and campus‑wide research activity reaching $500M. Duties

Teach undergraduate and graduate courses, including engineering surveying, civil engineering drawing and design, capstone‑level engineering design, and other service courses.

Mentor senior design projects and advise student organizations.

Hold office hours and provide academic advising.

Participate in course and program assessment and contribute service to the university and the profession.

Minimum Qualifications

PhD in Civil Engineering or related field.
