Job Summary The Corcoran School of the Arts and Design bridges the George Washington University’s academically robust programs in the arts with Corcoran’s creative and inspired scholarship. It functions as an incubator for artists and practitioners in arts‑related fields and serves to enrich students in other disciplines.

The Academic Department Administrator supports the Music Program and the operational functions of the Corcoran School, reporting directly to the Program Head and collaborating with the Director of Operations.

Responsibilities

Coordinate all logistical aspects within the program, including curricular performance activities, space, food and beverages, print and digital program material, student recruitment, speaker travel, and events.

Support the operational functions of the school facilities, including submitting building repair requests and following up with facilities and the Corcoran team.

Answer routine requests for information from students, prospective students, and the public and direct them to appropriate sources, offices, or advisors.

Develop and monitor budgets and prepare and process all financial‑related matters, including purchase orders, supplemental compensation, invoices, honorarium, stipends, volunteer appreciation recognition, and expense reimbursements.

Manage and order supplies for the department. Maintain department P‑card and ensure budget compliance with institutional policies and procedures.

Manage student enrollment in studio lessons and ensembles alongside the program head and director of performance studies.

Support the administrative operations of the program, including developing and maintaining databases (such as lists of alumni and email distribution lists); managing programmatic and school space requests; scheduling, supporting/attending, producing agendas and minutes; preparing correspondence designed to effect action or publicize programmatic activities and to disseminate information about relevant events and opportunities to the department community …

Assist the Program Head with key academic tasks, namely preparing the academic schedule and collecting and storing syllabi.

Hire/supervise work‑study students.

Regularly update programmatic web platforms and help compile department newsletter material.

Track donations and manage departmental correspondence with donors.

Process classroom and academic technology requests.

Liaison between departments and offices within CCAS and GW.

Collaborate with the designated central staff on the payment process for Corcoran. Monitor, document, and coordinate program payments.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma / GED plus 3 years of relevant professional experience, or a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.

Preferred Qualifications

Excellent customer service skills

Superior organizational skills and attention to detail

Understanding and experience with scheduling

Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, including Excel and Word

Knowledge of, or ability to learn, the Adobe Creative Suite, Google Workplace applications such as Google Docs and Google Sheets, and various social media platforms.
