Regulatory complexity is increasing and continuously evolving with many local, national and international codes, standards and regulations.
The Tesla Energy Compliance team is looking for a Staff Regulatory Compliance Engineer to support the global deployment of grid interactive energy storage system, micro-grid inverters and V2X system.
In this role you’ll be responsible for safety certifications, ranging from identifying market entry requirements through design consultancy, testing, certification and permitting.
Participating in code development groups to advance industry standards while removing technical barriers to facilitate the deployment of innovative product technologies.
What You'll Do
As a Subject Expert Matter in safety compliance standards unblock testing and certification of Tesla energy products for safety, functional safety and fire safety compliance. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to troubleshoot the EUT and prepare alternative solutions, negotiate testing scope and pass/fail criteria with NRTLs while meeting project timeline and safe work practices
Train junior engineers for test configuration hardware and firmware, post process test results and submit results to certification body
Propose and implement process improvement opportunities to facilitate testing and certification process
Write Compliance Product Design Requirements (CPDR) summarizing safety compliance requirements for design team to achieve compliance
Support product registrations and permitting applications
Consultant engineering design team for medium/high voltage product design
Research new market entry requirements
Represent Tesla on code and committee groups to aid in renewable code advancement and feed upcoming requirements to internal stakeholders for early adoption
Track codes, standards and regulatory changes and forward plan
Work with NRTLs to achieve product compliance (Plan and manage NRTLs)
What You'll Bring
Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent experience
Minimum 8 years of experience in power converter and/or energy storage systems compliance testing and/or certification
Experienced in safety or fire safety or functional safety or metering standards, e.g. UL 9540, UL 9540A, UL 1973, UL 1741, UL 1699B(AFCI), UL 1998 UL 991, ANSI C12.1, ANSI C12.20, IEC 62933-5-1, IEC 62933-5-2 IEC 62619, UN 38.3, IEC 62109-1, IEC 62109-2, IEC 62933-5-2, IEC 62477-1, IEC 60730 Annex H

Expected Compensation $68,000 - $186,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
