Housing Diversity Network
Role
Few places in the UK offer a built environment as unique and diverse as Westminster. From architecturally significant estates – including listed buildings that demand sensitive and expert stewardship – to modern housing that requires innovative, future-focused investment. The Head of Major Works will play a role in shaping the future of communities across one of the world’s most iconic cities. The Head of Major Works will lead the delivery of Westminster’s Housing Major Works £40million plus annual capital programme. You will provide both strategic vision and operational leadership, ensuring projects are delivered to the highest standard while keeping residents at the heart of every decision. With responsibility for a team of up to 60 staff and extensive contractor resources, you will drive performance, accountability, and innovation across a large-scale, high-profile programme. The remit of this role spans all construction activities through to handover. You will balance technical excellence and financial rigour with outstanding communication and collaboration, ensuring residents are engaged, informed, and empowered throughout the process. We’re looking for a construction professional with significant experience of capital programmes and the complexities of improving and preserving existing housing stock. You will be as comfortable working on listed estates as you are shaping investment in modern developments, with the expertise to safeguard Westminster’s architectural legacy while delivering modern standards and sustainability. Equally important will be your ability to create and inspire a resident-focused workforce – building a culture of pride, care, and professionalism. You will be a visible leader, motivating teams and contractors to deliver high quality, cost-effective outcomes, and championing continuous improvement. Information
