Job Description: Manufacturing Engineer Position Summary: Purpose: Manufacturing engineer to guidance and assistance with manufacturing processes and product development for aerospace fasteners. General Skills and Attributes: - Must be able to read engineering drawings, use various inspection gages (micrometer, caliper, indicator, and comparator) and test equipment (e.g., microscope, hardness tester, etc.) - Microsoft Office proficiency (emphasis on Excel). - 3D modeling skill w/ Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks - possess good communication skills, the ability to multi-task, be organized and able to work with minimal supervision - Demonstrate attention to detail - Identify and resolve problems in a timely manner by gathering and analyzing information using sound engineering principles - Develop alternative solutions based on available data and documenting results - Prioritize and plan work activities to use time efficiently. - Ability to read and interpret English Specific Skills and Attributes: - Knowledge of automation, robotics and machine integration a plus - Experience with metal fabrication including forging, turning, grinding and rolling - Special process familiarity with heat treatment and chemical processing (plating, coating) - Understanding of metallurgical and mechanical laboratory testing concepts (tensile, shear, fatigue, torque, etc.) Daily Tasks: - The candidate will perform engineering work related to the conversion of customer supplied drawings into a production plan including stage drawings and detailed work instructions - Planning, devising, or adapting methods to improve manufacturing production. - Examines equipment, processes, operations, and assembly to determine time or quality revisions and suggest improvements - Perform developmental laboratory testing to establish product design parameters Minimum Qualifications & Education: - A bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical preferred) or equivalent education and experience. - Five (5) years experience in a metal working environment - Must be legally authorized to work in the United States Reporting Relationships: Reports to Director of Engineering or Senior Manufacturing Engineer Working Conditions: - Office environment with prolonged periods of sitting at a computer workstation. - Machine shop environment with standing and walking. - This is a hands-on position that requires working with various hand tools and other equipment. Analyzes product failure date and laboratory tests results to determine causes of problems and develop solutions. Designs and directs testing or control of processing procedures, monitors material performance and evaluates deterioration. Conducts and supervises tests on raw materials or finished products to ensure their quality. Determines appropriate methods for fabricating and joining materials. Assists and guides technical staff in developing materials for specific uses in products and devices.
