Highspring has been engaged with a trusted Private Equity client, and they are in search of an Interim Chief Financial Officer for their $500M+ Waste Management Services business that is undergoing a series of operational and financial process-improvement initiatives aimed at increasing efficiency, scalability, and profitability. This is a hands-on interim CFO role, where our interim will have responsibilities over the accounting and finance functions.
The ideal candidate brings a strong background in
tech-enabled or technology-driven services businesses , with demonstrated experience modernizing financial processes, implementing systems, and supporting an organization through operational transformation.
Key Responsibilities Financial Leadership & Strategy Serve as the senior financial executive providing financial stewardship, strategic insight, and leadership during the transition period. Assess the current financial landscape and develop a prioritized action plan to strengthen financial operations, reporting, and controls. Partner with the CEO and executive team to refine the companys financial strategy, capital needs, and go-forward operating model. Process Optimization & Systems Modernization Lead process-improvement initiatives across finance, billing, pricing, procurement, and operational reporting. Evaluate legacy financial workflows and implement scalable, tech-forward solutions to streamline operations. Oversee enhancements or implementations of financial systems (ERP, billing platforms, data dashboards) to drive automation, accuracy, and transparency. Operational Finance & Performance Management Build or refine KPIs, dashboards, and management reporting to improve visibility into route profitability, cost drivers, customer economics, and recurring revenue performance. Strengthen unit economics and margin analysis, working cross-functionally with operations, customer service, and fleet management. Improve budgeting, forecasting, job costing, and cash-flow management processes. Financial Controls, Governance & Compliance Conduct a rapid assessment of internal controls, accounting policies, and compliance posture; implement necessary improvements. Ensure timely and accurate monthly closes, audits, and regulatory filings. Develop frameworks for cost discipline, vendor management, and financial accountability across the organization. Leadership & Collaboration Lead and mentor the finance team, elevating capabilities and strengthening the teams ability to support a growing, process-driven operation. Serve as a strategic business partner to operational leaders, enabling data-driven decisions and supporting organizational change. Prepare the company for a future permanent CFO transition by establishing a durable financial infrastructure.
Qualifications Required Proven success as a Corporate (not Divisional) CFO for PE-owned businesses with revenues of $250M+ in a
tech-enabled services ,
field services ,
logistics ,
waste management , or related operationally intensive sector. Experience leading financial process-improvement, system modernization, or operational transformation initiatives. Strong command of financial planning, analysis, accounting, budgeting, and cash-flow management. Prior experience working with private equity backed companies with direct line of communication to the sponsor. Availability to start in January and willing to commit to a 3-6 month engagement. This opportunity will require weekly travel to Stamford, CT.
