Director of Investment Due Diligence (Fairfax County)

We are seeking a Due Diligence leader to join our growing team providing hands on financial due diligence on all perspective capital allocations that we make. The individual will play a critical role in assessing deal viability, identifying risks and opportunities, and preparing detailed memoranda for Investment Committee review.
Location: Northern VA office Schedule: Hybrid (3 days per week in office) Compensation: 175,000-200,000+
Position Overview The Director of Financial Due Diligence will lead the underwriting and analytical efforts supporting significant capital allocations into emerging and growing businesses. This role oversees comprehensive financial reviews, the spreading and interpretation of financial documentation, and the development of investment diligence materials.
Key Responsibilities: Lead the underwriting processes for prospective investments, acquisitions, and strategic growth initiatives. Oversee the gathering, spreading, and analysis of financial statements, operating metrics, budgets, and projections to assess business performance, quality of earnings, cash flow, and overall financial health. Operate as part of the investment/deal team to model transaction scenarios, analyze valuation impacts, and assess return profiles. Produce high-quality due diligence reports, risk assessments, and recommendation memos summarizing findings for Investment Committee consideration. Partner with internal teams (finance, legal, operations) and external advisors (accounting firms, consultants) to validate assumptions, uncover red flags, and ensure cohesive diligence outputs. Develop and refine diligence frameworks, financial analysis standards, and best practices to support efficient and repeatable underwriting processes. Present findings and strategic perspectives to senior leadership, clearly articulating financial insights, key risks, and value-creation opportunities.
Qualifications: Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related discipline; MBA, CPA, or CFA preferred. 8+ years of experience in financial due diligence, investment banking, corporate development, private equity, or transaction advisory services. Deep expertise in financial modeling, valuation, and transaction analysis. Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and operational drivers of business performance. Excellent written communication skills with a proven ability to translate financial data into concise, decision-ready memos. Exceptional analytical, organizational, and project management skills. Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional diligence processes and manage multiple deals concurrently.
