Job Overview The Production Supervisor plays a critical role in the Production Operating System and is the Leader of the Tier 2. The Supervisor oversees several Tier 1 areas; all assemblers, technicians, and leads working in the area report directly to the Production Supervisor. The Supervisor supports the Tier 1 Team Leads through the escalation process, ensuring flow down of plans to each Tier 1, and monitoring the production area with the support of Team Leads to ensure that standard work is being executed at all levels. The Production Supervisor also has a critical role in coaching and mentoring the Team Leads and is responsible for the overall area training plan.
Key Responsibilities Tiered Accountability & Involvement :
Instill a culture rooted in Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SQDC) parameters.
Lead Tier 2 daily stand-ups to fortify a culture of collaboration and tiered responsibility and attend and participate in the next-level Tier meetings.
Ensure daily/weekly delivery plan is met and react to or elevate issues that threaten to impact the plan.
Proactively monitor and resolve roadblocks to the team’s successful execution of the day’s plan and elevate issues that cannot be resolved to the Production Manager.
Ability to foresee problems or issues before they arise and select the best course of action to prevent and/or resolve the problem.
People, Safety, & 5S :
Rapid action on safety incidents and proactively identify near misses to achieve and maintain the safest possible work environment.
Daily execution of the 5‑S system (Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) to maintain an organized, efficient workspace.
Collaborate with other plant supervisors and managers to allocate resources as needed, to support long and short-term execution of plan.
Owns the area training plan, ensuring that adequate cross‑training is achieved to maintain quality and production targets in the event of planned or unplanned absences.
Handle personnel issues of group that directly affect subordinate employees, including motivation, setting work hours, approving PTO, interviewing and selecting employees, discipline, etc.
Quality :
Rapidly respond to quality issues (non-conformances) leveraging the Tier quality metrics.
Lead Rapid Problem‑Solving initiatives to swiftly address operational challenges.
Employ tools like the PDCA (Plan, Do, Check, Act) cycle, 8D problem solving model, and other recognized methodologies to dissect and resolve issues.
Champion continuous improvement projects and waste elimination strategies.
Visual Management & Organization :
Advocate for the 5‑S system (Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) to maintain an organized, efficient workspace.
Integrate visual work aids to bolster process transparency and efficiency.
Leadership & Coaching :
Serve as the standard of our Production System, guiding with integrity, clarity, and vision.
Adopt a coach‑centric leadership style, emphasizing training, mentorship, and skill development of team members.
Proactively ensure lead adhere to the highest standards of quality and regulatory ownership.
Provide feedback and insight to management regarding the daily operations of the production department.
Qualifications & Skills Typically requires a bachelor’s degree from a four‑year college or university, or the equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, and 2+ years experience in a lead or supervisory role, with 3+ years’ functionally related experience.
Experience in managing and optimizing advanced production systems.
Background in structured problem‑solving tools and methodologies.
Exceptional leadership qualities with a passion for coaching, mentoring, and personnel development.
Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written.
Adeptness in using production‑related software and tools.
Ability to work as part of a team with members across the organization.
Compensation & Benefits This is an on‑site position in San Diego with a salary range of $71,000–77,000 annually. Compensation is based on several factors, including experience, skills, education, and job‑related knowledge. In addition to base salary, Ascential offers a comprehensive benefits package including PTO, Paid holidays, Basic life, Medical, Dental, Vision and 401k with a match.
