Tesla's Vehicle Power Electronics group is seeking a skilled and motivated Staff Mechanical Engineer to join the Drive Inverter design team. This role involves pushing power electronics designs to their physical limits, requiring a strong technical background, critical thinking, passion for new technologies, and the ability to execute efficiently. What You'll Do

Design and create 3D models of mechanical packaged semiconductor components and assemblies. Perform mechanical design analysis including thermal, CFD, structural, assembly, and testing considerations. Address electronics packaging challenges such as electrical isolation, sealing, thermal management, interconnections, shock and vibration, EMI, RF communications, etc. Develop engineering test plans for designs. Create detailed drawings and manufacturing instructions for parts and assemblies. Assist in prototype builds and component fabrication. Collaborate with mechanical, systems, electrical, digital control, manufacturing, industrial design, and test engineers to develop designs from concept to mass production. What You'll Bring

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience. At least 8 years of related industry experience, including experience managing or leading small teams. Deep understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals such as heat transfer, fluids, statics, dynamics, and structural design. Extensive experience designing and building mechanical assemblies and shipping products into volume production. Knowledge of materials used in electronics packaging (metals, insulators, plastics, etc.). Proficiency with 3D mechanical design tools (e.g., CATIA) and analysis tools (e.g., COMSOL, ANSYS Icepak, StarCCM). Experience with GD&T, CATIA V5/V6, and PLM systems. Familiarity with environmental, reliability, safety standards for automotive, consumer, industrial, or residential products. Experience with high-volume manufacturing processes like injection molding, stamping, die casting, etc., and knowledge of design for reliability and manufacturability. Basic knowledge of Matlab and/or Python. Understanding of electrical design fundamentals, PCBAs, and high voltage mechanical design. Compensation and Benefits
