Who We Are the

Educational Theatre Association (EdTA)

is a national nonprofit organization with a mission to inspire and support theatre education. We are home to the

International Thespian Society , the honorary organization for high school and middle school theatre students, and we host the

International Thespian Festival (ITF) —a premier event celebrating student artistry and achievement.

About The Role The Director of Operations is a senior leadership position responsible for overseeing IT, risk management, infrastructure, and organizational operations. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, this role translates association strategy, manages resource allocation, and supports organizational priorities while ensuring that systems, policies, and processes enable effective collaboration and program delivery across the organization.

This is a role for a leader who can both set functional strategy and execute, bringing clarity, structure, and forward-thinking operational leadership to a complex nonprofit environment.

Requirements A Typical Day May Include

Overseeing IT systems, data security, and infrastructure to support efficient, secure operations

Leading risk management and compliance, including insurance coverage, legal coordination, and vendor relationships

Managing relationships with Riskversity and the organization's insurance broker; ensuring coverage aligns with EdTA's activities and risk profile

Overseeing Certificates of Insurance (COIs) and event cancellation insurance processes, ensuring accurate, centralized documentation

Owning contract management and vendor governance, including renewal tracking, review processes, and centralized records

Optimizing and maintaining organizational systems and infrastructure to support cross-departmental work

Supervising finance and operations staff, fostering accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement

Serving as a trusted operational advisor to senior leadership and a point of contact for chapter-related operational questions

Role Progression

Within 1 month: You'll gain a deep understanding of EdTA's operational landscape, systems, and risk profile, and establish relationships with key staff and vendors

Within 3 months: You'll assume full ownership of operational systems, contract governance, and risk management processes, and actively contribute to senior leadership decision-making

Within 6 months: You'll have strengthened infrastructure, improved operational clarity across departments, and implemented systems or processes that support organizational growth and sustainability

About You

You are a strategic operator who understands how systems, people, and policies work together

You bring strong judgment, accountability, and follow-through to complex operational decisions

You are comfortable leading teams, managing vendors, and making resource-allocation decisions

You balance risk mitigation with innovation, ensuring compliance without creating unnecessary friction

You communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

You are motivated by mission-driven work and understand the realities of nonprofit operations

Nice to Have but Not Necessary

Experience in nonprofit or association management

Background in IT systems oversight, risk management, or infrastructure transformation
