Director, Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning
Location: Indianapolis, IN | Salary: $184,000 - $240,000 (Full-time)
Job Summary Senior leadership role overseeing a global ecommerce retailer's AI/ML strategy, Center of Excellence, and technology initiatives across cloud platforms and containerized solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Lead Enterprise AI Strategy
Define and evolve the AI/ML roadmap and portfolio aligned with business objectives.
Champion responsible AI and enable enterprise-wide adoption.
Drive Transformation
Bridge legacy systems with modern AI capabilities.
Integrate AI/ML into core business processes, manage budget and stakeholder priorities.
Build & Scale the Center of Excellence
Recruit, mentor, and grow a high‑performance engineering organization.
Establish best practices for ML Ops, model governance, and platform scalability.
Innovate with Generative AI
Lead development of advanced generative AI and multi‑agent systems in collaboration with product owners and data engineering.
Enable data scientists to transform experimental models into production‑grade systems.
Implement automation, reusable infrastructure, and CI/CD pipelines for rapid deployment.
Ensure seamless productionization of models built in Python and deployed to containers or Databricks.
Leadership & Partnership
Collaborate with data, engineering, science, and architecture teams to deliver integrated solutions.
Engage senior leaders and business units across supply chain, finance, HR, and technology.
Communicate vision and manage concerns around automation and job displacement.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
10+ years’ experience in AI/ML, including at least 5 years in senior leadership roles.
Expertise in ML Ops, model deployment, AI platform architecture, and cloud‑native engineering.
Hands‑on experience with Generative AI, large language models, and multi‑agent systems.
Strong foundation in Python, containerization, Databricks, and major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
Proven ability to lead large, distributed teams in cloud‑native environments.
Exceptional communication, stakeholder management, and executive‑level presentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Strategic change agent experience scaling AI capabilities in matrixed organizations.
Track record of embedding AI/ML into business processes and driving adoption.
Experience with both open‑source and proprietary AI models.
Familiarity with responsible AI governance and best practices.
Publications, open‑source contributions, or speaking engagements in AI/ML community.
PhD in a relevant technical field.
