Role Summary The Director of Sales leads the property’s group sales effort for a large‑volume venue. This position manages both reactive and proactive group sales, shares responsibility for group revenue goals, and oversees day‑to‑day leadership of on‑property group sales associates. The role requires building long‑term, value‑based customer relationships, maximizing group revenue opportunities, and ensuring exceptional guest and associate satisfaction. The Director implements brand service strategies and brand initiatives throughout the sales process and maintains accountability for accurate forecasting and up‑selling of catering and group rooms.
Qualifications
Education:
2‑year degree from an accredited university in Business Administration, Marketing, Hotel and Restaurant Management, or a related major.
Experience:
4 years of experience in sales and marketing or a related professional area.
Skills:
Excellent telephone and selling skills with an understanding of sales processes.
Knowledge of operations and contractual agreements.
Demonstrated team‑supervising experience.
Group sales experience with strong customer and relationship management skills.
Effective decision‑making, negotiation, and communication skills.
Competence in standard software applications and hotel systems including CI/TY.
Preferred:
4‑year bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Hotel and Restaurant Management, or a related major; 2 years of related experience preferred.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the property’s group sales strategy, targeting high‑value accounts.
Develop and manage sales budgets, forecasts, and performance metrics.
Oversee all group sales activities, including solicitation, booking, contract execution, and resources.
Create and implement comprehensive sales and marketing plans aligned with brand standards.
Ensure seamless turnover between sales and operations for flawless event execution.
Resolve customer issues related to the sales process and maintain high service standards.
Build partnerships with off‑property sales teams, community partners, vendors, and internal departments.
Develop and maintain strong client relationships by understanding customer needs and business challenges.
Collaborate closely with hotel operations for consistent execution of group strategies.
Direct and coach the on‑property sales team, setting goals and managing performance.
Partner with HR to recruit, develop, and retain top sales talent.
Provide ongoing training, mentorship, and knowledge transfer.
Maintain effective processes and performance systems to optimize team efficiency.
Share responsibility for achieving revenue goals and enhancing the property’s competitive position.
