Senior Software Engineer, Backend (AI Agents)

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the AI Agents engineering team within the Servicing Engineering organization. Our team works closely with an omnichannel AI agent vendor to provide a conversational first point of contact for our customers. We focus on orchestrating the systems within affirm to continuously find solutions for our customers. The team is newly formed and taking on big unknowns, so we're looking for someone who wants to take ownership and execute for whatever is necessary.
Responsibilities
Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team, lead engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems, and ensure support throughout delivery.
Collaborate with product management, design & analytics by participating in ideation, articulating technical constraints, and partnering on decisions that properly consider risks and trade-offs.
Identify project, process, technology or business issues, advocate for them, and lead in solving them.
Support the operations and availability of your team’s artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and supporting keep the lights on & on‑call efforts.
Foster a culture of quality and ownership on your team by setting or improving code review and design standards and advocating for them beyond your team through writing and tech talks.
Help develop talent on your team by providing feedback and guidance, and leading by example.
Qualifications
4+ years of experience as a software engineer.
Experienced in designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using technologies such as Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
Experience shipping web apps using declarative UI frameworks like React or Vue.
Experience defining a technical plan for a significant feature or system component with an elegant, simple, and extensible design. Write high quality code that is easily understood and used by others.
Proficient at making significant changes in a large code base, and have developed a suite of tools and practices that enable safe changes.
Shows ownership of growth, proactively seeking feedback from team, manager, and stakeholders.
Strong verbal and written communication skills that support effective collaboration with a global engineering team.
Position requires either equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

USA base pay range (CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT) per year: $190,000 - $240,000
USA base pay range (all other U.S. states) per year: $169,000 - $219,000
