Director of Engineering
Base pay range $175,000.00/yr - $225,000.00/yr
About the Opportunity We are conducting a confidential search for a Director of Engineering to lead the engineering design and development team for single phase and three phase distribution transformers. This role combines strategic leadership with hands‑on engineering management in a well‑established manufacturing environment.
What You'll Do Strategic Leadership
Develop and execute engineering department strategic goals aligned with business objectives
Drive innovation through new technologies, materials, and processes to enhance product performance and reduce costs
Collaborate with cross‑functional leaders on business priorities, budgets, and timelines
Develop and manage engineering budgets
Oversee day‑to‑day engineering functions including sales, production, and quality support
Ensure design compliance with industry standards (ANSI, ASTM, IEEE, CSA, DOE)
Manage departmental capability through skill assessment, training, and strategic hiring
Implement best practices and drive continuous improvement
Establish and track departmental OKRs and KPIs
Build and mentor a high‑performing engineering team
Foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
Drive collaboration across engineering, production, quality, and other departments
Conduct performance reviews and develop team members
What You Bring Required
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
20+ years of engineering experience
5+ years in engineering leadership within manufacturing
Proficiency in electrical distribution equipment design and industrial standards (ANSI, ASTM, IEEE, CSA)
Experience with engineering design tools (CAD, FEA, simulation software)
Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies
Proven ability to lead diverse teams and drive cross‑functional collaboration
Excellent decision‑making, problem‑solving, and analytical skills
Strong project management capabilities in fast‑paced environments
Outstanding communication skills with technical and non‑technical stakeholders
Preferred
Experience in transformer or electrical equipment manufacturing
Knowledge of distribution transformer design and manufacturing processes
