Responsibilities The Senior Underwriter, Light Brokerage’s primary job function includes:
Developing a comprehensive knowledge of the company’s appetite in this product space and industry awareness of opportunities and threats.
Working with leadership to effectively roll out successful product launches.
Underwriting, including communicating appetite, rate, and underwriting information to pilot agents.
Transitioning from a pilot launch to broader distribution.
Underwrites select risks in accordance with company guidelines for acceptability and rate.
Markets, builds, and strengthens relationships with key producers within agencies that can produce a flow of preferred business to meet targets.
Maintains profitable book of business, monitoring trends, profitability, and growth.
Assesses agent performance based on profitability, growth, quality of submissions, bind ratios, and other key performance indicators.
Analyzes market conditions and provides suggestions for needed changes in forms, endorsements, and rates, including opportunities for market or product expansion or enhancement.
Collaborates with Contract Bind production underwriting teams and Light Brokerage teammates to ensure proper placement of risk and communicate market/agent trends and issues between divisions.
Communicates product, rate, and form changes as appropriate with external customers.
Corresponds or consults with agents, brokers, and other interested persons to determine feasibility and marketability of new products to meet competition and increase sales.
Contributes to the development and maintenance of E-Guide, enhancements to the web portal and other electronic products, including notification of changes to internal and external customers.
Qualifications
Excess and Surplus lines background is highly preferred.
5+ years experience underwriting casualty products at a senior level required.
Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal and leadership skills.
Good understanding of the E&S business environment.
Ability to effectively engage with leaders across the organization.
Applicable knowledge of budgets, forecasting, and metrics.
Good decision‑making skills and response to high‑pressure situations.
Intermediate to advanced experience in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and aptitude to learn new applications, as needed.
Critical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
Must be able to travel to visit agents and attend conventions as necessary.
Education Requirement
Bachelor's degree from a four‑year college or university; or 5+ years related insurance experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
CPCU, IIA or other insurance related classes recommended.
