If you are a current HFEMS Health Compliance Inspector (Health Professional III), you will maintain your current salary if hired into this role. If any step pay increases are available, your HRBP will audit your step pay/time‑in‑series upon an offer.

If you are not a current State of Colorado employee, the starting pay for this position is $66,024 annually.

Description Of Job Work Unit Health Facilities and Emergency Medical Services Division (HFEMSD) plays a vital role in protecting the health and safety of Coloradans by overseeing and enforcing state and federal regulations for a wide variety of health care providers.

Mission

Protect the health, safety, and welfare of patients and residents by ensuring licensed and certified health care facilities comply with all applicable federal and state regulations and professional standards of practice.

Provide transparent public information on health care facilities to promote accountability and informed decision‑making.

Summary Of Position This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by ensuring the safety and quality of care provided by licensed and certified health care agencies across Colorado. As part of an interdisciplinary survey team—or working independently—you will assess the care, treatment, and quality of life of clients and patients through observations, interviews, and record reviews.

Duties Of The Position

Conduct comprehensive surveys and investigations of licensed and certified health care agencies to evaluate the quality of care, services, and patient outcomes.

Observe, interview, and review records to assess compliance with state and federal regulations.

Analyze and interpret evidence to determine regulatory compliance, applying professional judgment and established guidance.

Develop clear, concise, and legally defensible statements of deficiencies that accurately describe noncompliance findings.

Investigate complaints and self‑reported incidents, determining whether facilities responded appropriately to protect patient health and safety.

Serve as a resource and educator for health care providers, consumers, and partner agencies by interpreting regulations and promoting understanding of compliance expectations.

Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support consistent enforcement, quality improvement, and the protection of vulnerable populations across Colorado’s health care system.

Residency Requirement Only residents of the State of Colorado at the time of submitting your application are eligible.

Class Code & Classification Description C7C3XX – HEALTH PROFESSIONAL III.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience only: Six (6) years of applicable health care in a facility or program regulated by the Health Facilities and Emergency Medical Services Division.

Education & Experience: A combination of education and experience equivalent to six (6) years. Examples:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in Nursing, Public Health, Social Work, or closely related field. A master’s and bachelor's degree may substitute for the required years of experience.

An additional two (2) years of professional health care in a facility or program regulated by the Health Facilities and Emergency Medical Services Division.

Cover Letter Required Along with your application, submit a cover letter not to exceed two typewritten pages, double spaced, detailing how your education and previous work experience has prepared you to excel in this job. Include specific examples of determining and/or demonstrating compliance with regulations or evidence‑based practice, and how you meet the minimum and preferred competencies.

Conditions Of Employment

A pre‑employment background check.

Ability and willingness to travel independently or with a group up to 50% of the time throughout Colorado.

Must be willing to work in environments where contagious diseases may be present.

Be available in the event of an emergency and required to report to work immediately.

Must be proficient in word processing and current communication technology.

Must obtain an influenza shot annually prior to the onset of the flu season or wear a mask while on premises.

Must be vaccinated against COVID‑19.

Must perform annual fit testing for N‑95 masks and complete annual PPE training.

Must be able to work occasional evening, night, weekend, or holidays.

Must be able to lift and carry up to 45 lbs. of equipment for extended periods of time.

Must be able to walk or stand for extended periods, including climbing multiple flights of stairs.

Once employed, must complete required surveyor training within the first six (6) months.

Requires use of state fleet vehicles (conditions apply).
