Waveum
Waveum is a fast-growing technology company that builds high-performance, real-time platforms inspired by the principles of modern trading systems. Our architecture powers complex, multi-channel operations for large enterprises, and we are now applying this expertise to the healthcare industry. In this project, you’ll join a team building a next-generation healthcare logistics and workflow platform designed to streamline patient orders, medical equipment routing, provider coordination, and regulatory compliance.
Role Overview Waveum is looking for a proactive, high-caliber Senior CloudOps Engineer to join our infrastructure team in Chicago. You will be a key architect of our cloud environment, ensuring that our Azure-based platforms are scalable, resilient, and highly optimized.
As a Senior Engineer, you aren't just following tickets—you are identifying bottlenecks, suggesting modern architectural solutions, and mentoring the team on best practices. You will bridge the gap between complex Kubernetes orchestrations and seamless CI/CD delivery.
Responsibilities
Cloud Infrastructure: Design, deploy, and manage production-grade clusters using Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).
CI/CD Orchestration: Build and maintain robust pipelines across multiple platforms including GitLab, Jenkins, Bitbucket, and GitHub Actions.
Observability & Monitoring: Implement end-to-end visibility using OpenTelemetry, Azure App Insights, Datadog, Grafana or similar to ensure system health and proactive alerting.
Artifact Management: Oversee the lifecycle of container images and binaries using GitHub Container Registry, JFrog Artifactory, Nexus, or similar.
Global Collaboration: Work effectively with remote teams, maintaining high standards of documentation (internal wikis, architecture diagrams, and runbooks).
Git Strategy: Manage complex version control workflows, including Git mirroring and multi-repo synchronization.
Proactive Optimization: Actively suggest and implement improvements for security, cost‑optimization (FinOps), and system performance.
Technical Requirements
Cloud Mastery: Deep expertise in Azure services; experience with AWS is a significant plus.
Kubernetes Expert: Proven track record of managing AKS and complex Kubernetes deployments (Helm, Kustomize, etc.).
Pipeline Polyglot: Expert‑level knowledge of GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, and Azure DevOps.
Observability: Hands‑on experience with OpenTelemetry and modern logging/tracing stacks.
Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Proficiency in Terraform, Bicep, or Pulumi to manage cloud resources.
Security & Networking: Understanding of VNETs, Private Links, ingress controllers, and secret management (Azure Key Vault/HashiCorp Vault).
Professional Qualifications
Experience: 5+ years in a Cloud, DevOps, or SRE role, with at least 3 years in a senior/lead capacity.
Certifications: Azure Solutions Architect Expert or AWS Solutions Architect Professional (highly preferred).
Soft Skills: Exceptional communication skills with the ability to explain complex infrastructure concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
Mindset: A "security‑first" and "automation‑always" mentality. You should be someone who enjoys finding a better way to do things rather than settling for the status quo.
Salary Range US $110,000–140,000 annual base, depending on experience, plus benefits and potential performance bonus.
The role is structured as a three‑month contract‑to‑hire arrangement, with the possibility of earlier conversion to full‑time employment based on demonstrated impact, collaboration, and delivery.
Seniority Level Mid‑Senior level
Employment Type Full‑time (contract‑to‑hire initially)
