How You Will Make An Impact (Job Summary) The Director of Engineering will lead a high-performing team responsible for research and development, new product development, sustaining engineering, and order engineering. This leader plays a central role in driving innovation, improving technical capabilities, and delivering profitable growth through new technologies and customer-focused solutions.

Working closely with the Product Management, Commercial, and Operations teams, the Director of Engineering ensures that engineering strategies align with business goals, customer expectations, and manufacturing realities. This is a highly visible, hands‑on leadership role in a company committed to innovation, continuous improvement, and market leadership.

What You Can Expect In This Role (Job Responsibilities)

Leadership and Strategy

Develop a compelling engineering vision that supports the company’s growth strategy and competitive positioning

Build, mentor, and motivate an engaged team of engineering managers and technical experts

Foster an environment that promotes innovation, technical excellence, and personal accountability

Translate business objectives into engineering initiatives with measurable impact on revenue, cost, and quality

Research and Development

Drive R&D efforts aimed at exploring new technologies, materials, and automation opportunities that create product differentiation and cost advantage

Establish a structured innovation process to move promising ideas through feasibility, prototyping, and validation stages

Stay ahead of emerging trends, ensuring the company is positioned as an innovation leader in its market space

Collaborate with Product Management to identify technology gaps and define new development opportunities

New Product Development

Oversee the end-to-end product development cycle – from concept definition through design, testing, and launch

Partner with the Product Management team to ensure engineering deliverables align with product roadmaps and market needs

Drive time‑to‑market improvements by streamlining design reviews, prototyping, and validation processes

Implement design‑for‑manufacturability principles to ensure smooth handoffs to Operations

Encourage iterative development and fast learning cycles to accelerate product innovation

Sustaining Engineering

Lead efforts to continuously enhance existing products for reliability, performance, and serviceability

Partner with Operations and Quality teams to address production issues and implement design improvements that reduce costs and complexity

Support commercial teams by resolving customer‑specific engineering issues efficiently and effectively

Use data‑driven analysis to guide product updates, ensuring customer satisfaction and long‑term product profitability

Order Engineering

Oversee the engineering support process for custom or configuration‑based customer orders

Develop standardized tools and digital systems to speed up quoting, design, and approval cycles

Ensure designs meet customer requirements while maintaining manufacturability and cost targets

Work closely with Commercial and Operations teams to deliver engineered solutions that strengthen customer relationships

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

Partner with the Commercial team to provide technical support during the sales process, helping define feasible, profitable solutions

Collaborate with Operations to align product designs with production capabilities and capacity planning

Serve as a bridge between engineering and business functions, ensuring shared accountability for results

Operational Excellence

Manage budgets, staffing plans, and key performance metrics to ensure efficiency and productivity

Implement modern engineering tools, processes, and KPI frameworks that drive clarity and continuous improvement

Champion Lean principles and digital transformation initiatives to streamline workflows

Establish strong project‑management discipline, ensuring on‑time, on‑budget delivery of engineering projects

What We Are Looking For (Required/Ideal Experience, Skills, Education) Required Experience

10 plus years of progressive experience leading engineering and product development teams, preferably in an industrial environment

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Demonstrated ability to lead cross‑functional teams and drive organizational alignment

Knowledge and interest in new and emerging technologies and engineering development tools

Experience with software development/management

Proven experience improving engineering processes and reducing NPI cycle times

Experience leading with a Design for Manufacturing approach for both legacy products and new designs

Experience managing product development within budget and on time

Strong project management skills, coordinating multiple projects simultaneously

Process orientation and disposition toward continuous improvement

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with ability to communicate with individuals of varying technical backgrounds

Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills, identifying issues and implementing changes

Ability to collaborate with cross‑functional teams at all levels and present data and recommendations

Hands‑on leadership with successful team development

Education & Certifications

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering

Master’s degree preferred
