Position Overview The District Director leads membership growth, fundraising, unit service, and program delivery across the council, while also overseeing after-school Scouting outreach, Exploring programs, and STEM initiatives. This position supervises District Associates and after-school staff, and works closely with volunteers, schools, and community partners to expand youth participation and support strong Scouting programs.
Responsibilities Membership & Unit Service
Develop and execute annual membership plan; achieve growth goals (5%+ annually)
Support and mentor DE/DA and ensure consistent unit service and visitation
Start new units and expand Scouting access in all communities
Finance & Development
Lead Friends of Scouting efforts (~$100,000 shared team goal)
Manage one annual fundraising event (net ~$15,000)
Support product sales growth
Oversee United Way funding and reporting; pursue grants and sponsorships
Program & Outreach
Provide leadership for after-school Scouting programs and community outreach
Grow Exploring programs with schools, organizations, and businesses
Support local program activities, training, and camp promotion
Deliver engaging STEM programming and youth experiences
Leadership & Administration
Supervise District Executive(s), District Associate(s), and after-school staff
Recruit and support volunteers and partners
Maintain program quality, reporting, and budget oversight
Work evenings/weekends as needed and travel throughout the service area
Education
Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent professional experience
Qualifications
Youth program or nonprofit leadership experience strongly preferred
Grant or fundraising experience valued
Strong communication, organization, and relationship-building skills
Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and insurance required
