Brief Job Overview The Director, Global Business Development, Biologics is a senior‑level position leading the global commercial strategy and execution for USP’s portfolio of standards for the biopharmaceutical industry. The role drives global revenue growth, expands market presence, and accelerates USP’s impact worldwide.
As a commercial leader, you will oversee global sales operations and distribution channels across six major regions: North America, Latin America, Europe & MEA, APAC, Greater China, and South Asia, and will be accountable for meeting revenue and unit growth targets for the Biologics market. You will lead a geographically dispersed sales team, foster high‑level customer relationships, and collaborate cross‑functionally with BIO Marketing, BIO Science, and Customer Service leadership to deliver an exceptional customer experience and achieve commercial objectives.
You will lead the creation and execution of business plans to position USP’s portfolio of standards for long‑term growth, focusing on identifying and supporting resolution of key quality challenges that developers and manufacturers of biologics drugs routinely face. You will also be in charge of positioning USP in new high‑growth therapeutic fields (cell and gene therapies, nucleic acid drugs, monoclonal antibodies) and new markets globally.
This remote position requires up to 40‑50% domestic and international travel. The role is supervisory, with team reporting across geographies.
Responsibilities Revenue Growth & Market Expansion
Drive achievement of global revenue and unit growth targets across all regions, ensuring sustainable long‑term growth.
Develop and execute strategic business and account plans to expand market presence, protect existing revenues, and accelerate new customer acquisition.
Identify and unlock opportunities in emerging therapeutic areas and high‑growth markets such as cell & gene therapies, nucleic acid drugs and monoclonal antibodies, positioning USP as a leader in biologics standards.
Customer Engagement
Cultivate and strengthen senior‑level customer relationships, positioning USP as a trusted advisor to biopharmaceutical developers and manufacturers.
Build strong, collaborative partnerships with regional distributors, ensuring alignment through training, shared resources and joint customer engagement.
Partner with global customers to understand and help address critical quality challenges in biologics development and manufacturing.
Represent USP at industry conferences, trade associations and professional forums, elevating the organization’s visibility and influence.
Data‑Driven Insights & Market Intelligence
Lead the use of Salesforce CRM and data analytics to manage pipelines, track performance and drive accountability across regions.
Analyze and interpret global sales data directly and through distributors to identify revenue opportunities and provide strategic business reviews.
Monitor industry trends, regulatory dynamics and competitive developments to anticipate customer needs and adjust commercial strategies accordingly.
Gather and consolidate market and customer feedback, providing actionable recommendations to Global Marketing and Strategy teams.
Team Leadership & Cross‑Functional Collaboration
Build, lead and develop a high‑performing international sales team, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability and growth.
Partner with Marketing and Customer Service leadership to deliver a seamless and differentiated customer experience.
Ensure flawless execution of commercial initiatives by aligning global, regional and functional priorities.
Travel up to 40‑50% globally to engage customers, support regional teams and expand USP’s presence worldwide.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a life sciences discipline (preferably analytical chemistry, biochemistry, biology or biotechnology).
Strategic commercial leader with 10+ years of experience in sales and at least 5 years of progressive international sales‑leadership experience, ideally in the life sciences, biopharma or related industry.
Proven track record of driving international revenue growth and leading geographically dispersed teams.
Passion for building high‑performance teams and organizations.
Entrepreneurial mindset with the drive to open new doors and create new opportunities.
Strong relationship‑builder with ability to influence senior decision‑makers across global organisations.
