We are seeking a detail-oriented and strategic Accounts Payable Manager to lead our AP team and ensure accurate, timely processing of vendor invoices and payments. This role requires strong leadership, analytical skills, and the ability to streamline processes while maintaining compliance with company policies and regulatory standards.

Title: Accounts Payable Manager

Location: Chicago, IL / Hybrid (1 day/week onsite)

Team: Manage and develop a team of two AP specialists

Reporting: Corporate Controller

Position Type: Direct Hire

Key Responsibilities

Oversee the daily operations of the Accounts Payable department, including invoice processing, payment runs, and vendor account management.

Develop and implement efficient AP policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure accuracy and compliance.

Manage vendor relationships, resolve discrepancies, and negotiate payment terms when necessary.

Monitor and reconcile AP aging reports, ensuring timely resolution of outstanding items.

Collaborate with Procurement, Finance, and other departments to optimize workflows and support business objectives.

Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual AP reports for management.

Lead system upgrades or automation initiatives to improve efficiency and reduce manual processes.

Train, mentor, and evaluate AP staff, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

Ensure compliance with tax regulations, 1099 reporting, and other statutory requirements.

Assist with audits by providing documentation and responding to inquiries promptly

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree

5+ years of progressive experience in Accounts Payable, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.

Strong knowledge of AP processes, ERP systems, and best practices.

Background in logistics, manufacturing, transportation, distribution, or related industries is highly preferred.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.

Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

Experience with process improvement and automation initiatives is a plus.
