Milhouse
The Senior Substation Electrical Engineer is an integral resource to our Power Substation leadership as you lead programs and a team of engineers on Milhouse projects. You will lead protective system designs, physical layout designs, and calculations, and coordinate with other disciplines on substation projects.
What You Will Do
Apply clients’ standards, guidelines, specifications, practices, and procedures or appropriate industry standards when preparing design drawings and coordinate design activities to ensure installation and operations comply with all specifications, codes, and client requirements.
Deliver the assigned projects on time, within budget, and to the agreed scope.
Communicate and coordinate project activities with internal team members and build relationships with clients.
Design and deliver green and brown field high voltage electrical substation projects.
Support the development of P&C one‑line diagram, AC/DC schematics, control panel layout and wiring diagram, station service AC/DC distribution diagram, bill of material, cable schedule, etc.
Lead all quality assurance efforts on behalf of the team.
Manage project subordinates and other project/discipline resources to meet quality, schedule, and budget requirements.
Create and enforce the project quality plan.
Prepare proposals, contract amendments, change order documentation, and claim documentation.
Work independently and produce high‑quality work.
Lead project resource teams assigned to support projects.
Maintain positive working relationships between the client and prime consultants.
Provide documented scope, schedule, deliverables, and budgets.
Provide progress reports, project milestones, scope changes, budget forecasting/analysis, and schedule updates to the team.
Monitor cost accounting, invoicing, and closing out of projects.
Manage multiple simultaneous projects.
Coordinate with the team to ensure all required deliverables are prepared, submitted, and tracked.
Coordinate with finance to confirm invoicing and timely payment collection.
Oversee QA/QC on assigned projects.
Provide project status information to managers and the team.
Assist management as directed.
Support project execution as needed.

Advanced presentation, written, and verbal communication skills.
Knowledge of applicable codes and standards.
Familiarity with discipline‑specific design software and design management systems.
Experience with grounding calculations.
Membership and active participation in professional organizations such as IEEE.
Experience with power system studies such as short‑circuit and coordination studies.
Experience preparing relay settings.
Familiarity with IEEE / EIC codes and standards.
Understanding of CAD software.
Ability to estimate, plan, and schedule substation projects.
Ability to support proposal activities.
Proficient with Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, and CAD tools such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Revit.
Your Background
Four‑year bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an ABET‑accredited institution.
13–20 years of protection & control / substation design engineering experience.
P.E. required.
Local utility agency experience preferred; ComEd experience strongly preferred.
Project management experience preferred.
Distribution experience is a plus.
