Hours 8:00 am – 5:00 pm On‑Site (Chicago, IL)

Compensation Base salary range: $113,740 – $150,647.20 per year.

Individual pay within this range is determined by performance, knowledge, job‑related skills and experience, and relevant education or training. The role is also eligible for S&C’s annual incentive plan (AIP).

Key Responsibilities

Perform project engineering on process systems assigned by the Manager‑Process Engineering, including cleaning‑phosphating‑powder paint systems, electroplating, liquid painting, vacuum systems, vacuum brazing, waste treatment, material handling and related automation. Tasks involve engineering/design/construction of new processes or improvements at the Chicago headquarters; travel to other manufacturing locations may be required.

Prepare design criteria, feasibility assessments, treatability and pilot trials, functional description and sequences of operations, calculations, equipment selection, drawings, sketches, layouts and specifications.

Author process quality specifications, define process limits, analyze failures and process improvements, and complete production acceptance/qualification of materials.

Prepare cost estimates, schedules, purchase documents, drawing reviews, and field work for capital projects.

Coordinate work with outside contractors and in‑house maintenance, ensuring preventive and predictive maintenance processes, and perform field survey work to validate layouts and plans.

What You’ll Need to Succeed

10 years relevant and progressive experience in Quality, Design, Operations, Process, Maintenance or Manufacturing Engineering.

Bachelor’s Degree in Materials Science & Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or other relevant engineering.

Ownership and independent work within a collaborative setting, resolving technical issues, identifying root cause and improving safety, quality, delivery and cost.

Budget and cost estimating experience for capital projects exceeding $1,000,000.

Preparation of calculations, P&IDs, specifications, functional descriptions, equipment schedules, physicals/isometrics and interpretation of wiring diagrams/controls.

Familiarity with process controls, automation, material handling systems.

Experience with commissioning manufacturing equipment and system, startup and troubleshooting.

Excellent MS and PowerPoint skills.

Knowledge of ISO‑9001 QMS practices.

Proficient in systematic problem‑solving methods (DMAIC, RCA, 5‑Why, A3, 8D, etc.).

Unit operations and support system assessment‑implementation.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Basic bookkeeping/project accounting skills.

Preferred

Experience with statistical analysis software such as Minitab, R, SPSS, etc.

Knowledge of industry codes and standards—ACS, AIChE, ASME, ASTM, IEEE, NFPA, OSHA, UL, Chicago Code.
