Job Overview The Analyst Energy Market position supports quantitative analysis functions for the Energy Supply & Market Operations (ESMO) department. The role takes direction from the Day Ahead, Real Time, and Congestion Revenue Rights management for determining specific data analysis requirements. The role requires management, development, and communication of data analysis for ESMO to help support economic optimization of CPS Energy generation resources, demand costs, and congestion risks.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Provide insights into factors influencing energy prices, supply and demand, and market volatility.
Present insights to internal stakeholders, translating data‑driven results into actionable recommendations. Develop detailed analysis on why a transaction may not have performed as expected, potential missed opportunities for generation assets, identify the transmission elements that could cause congestion elevating the risk around transactions and load cost as well as checking and validating financial results for generation assets and wholesale books.
Supports analysis and modeling for forecasting congestion, assessing congestion drivers, and assisting in locational marginal pricing (LMP) assessments.
Hands‑on experience or solid understanding of transmission topology.
Must understand the operational activities related to the ERCOT Wholesale Market.
Supports analysis requirements for generation resource revenue optimization in the Day Ahead and Real Time market.
Perform various market analysis studies (what‑ifs, back casting, etc.) and scenario analysis, tool development and preparing/presenting materials and results to various levels of staff and management.
Create visually compelling dashboards and reports to communicate complex data findings.
Develops data visualization dashboards in Tableau and writes SQL queries to streamline processes.
Provides input and/or assists with the review and evaluation of lower‑level personnel.
Represents CPS Energy in daily customer interactions as well as occasional industry outings, events, and/or conferences.
Performs other project and process improvement initiatives as assigned.
Minimum Knowledge and Abilities
Working knowledge of power plant operations, electricity and fuel markets, and thermal unit generation optimization.
Data visualization experience in tools like Tableau/Excel.
Possesses and applies a broad knowledge of principles, practices and procedures of a particular field of specialization to complete difficult assignments.
Ability to identify alternative solutions for development of decision‑making proposals, which support organizational goals/objects and budget constraints.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Package, including word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation software, electronic mail and scheduling.
Available to address challenges and issues that may occur after normal work hours, including weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree from an accredited university, particular an MBA
Experience with databases, data manipulation and analytics (Excel, Python, Tableau, Alteryx)
Experience in an Analyst Energy Marketing role

Academic Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Engineering or related field from an accredited university OR Critical analytical experience demonstrated in a similar position.
Required Certifications and Physical Demands Indoor work, operating computer, manual dexterity, talking, hearing, repetitive motion. Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi‑functioning printer and calculator. Ability to travel between business related events. Work hours may be extended.
