The Assistant Director for Student Engagement plays an integral role in empowering our student leaders, building equity through the review, revision and administration of our operations and policies, and supporting the rich co‑curricular environment of the law school. This role is responsible for engaging our community through direct support, oversight, and advising of more than 50 student organizations, managing budgets ranging from $500 to $200,000, revising and implementing policies annually to create great events and experiences, and developing annual training and leadership transitions. The work must be carried out with the highest commitment to equity and community care, including contributing to the equity and inclusion work done by our team and students. Attention to detail, responsiveness, and clear, consistent communication are essential.
Situated in the Student Affairs Office, you will be part of a student‑centered team of four professionals committed to the thriving of team members and our students. The position is largely in‑person, with consideration given to flexible or remote arrangements as team staffing permits. Occasional night and weekend responsibilities may arise. We seek dedicated and creative team players who are committed to professional growth and skill development. Our staff community gathers regularly for all‑hands meetings, book clubs, board‑game lunches, walking challenges, an annual cookie swap, staff luncheons, and an end‑of‑year BBQ.
Responsibilities • Empower student leaders through oversight, advising, and support of over 50 student organizations. • Manage organization budgets ranging from $500 to $200,000. • Revise and implement policies annually to create effective events and experiences. • Develop and deliver annual training and leadership transition programs. • Contribute to equity and inclusion initiatives within the student engagement team. • Respond promptly and communicate clearly with student leaders and the broader community.
Required Skills
Bachelor's degree with 3+ years of full‑time experience in student activities; or an advanced degree in Higher Education, Law, or a related field with at least 1 year of full‑time experience in higher education.
Experience working directly in student activities and/or as a student leader.
Competency in identifying and developing resources for individual and group programming.
Experience in program planning, operations, and event management.
Ability to quickly master new technologies, including student engagement systems.
Experience facilitating trainings and discussions.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals and groups of various identities.
Experience with budgeting and/or overseeing others' budgets.
Understanding of the relationship between student leadership and advancing equity in legal study and practice.
Commitment to continuously improving the systems, processes, and technologies that enable effective and equitable student engagement.
Experience working with a graduate and/or professional school population.
Comfort with Microsoft Office, the Google Suite, and/or WordPress.
Experience with marketing and communication for events and trainings.
Exposure to the legal profession.
Location: Boston, MA. Position type: Full‑time/Regular. Salary grade: 46.
