Histology Technician (HT/HTL) – Full-Time

Monday–Friday, 3:00 AM – 11:30 AM Certification Required:
HT(ASCP) or HTL(ASCP)
Position Summary The Histology Technician is responsible for performing routine and specialized histological procedures to support timely and accurate diagnostic interpretation. This role requires proficiency in specimen processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining techniques while maintaining high-quality standards and adherence to laboratory protocols.
Key Responsibilities Specimen Processing & Workflow Validate specimen identification, sample type, and adequacy prior to processing. Prioritize workload according to section protocols to meet established turnaround times. Process specimens using tissue processors, ensuring correct reagent order and program selection for each specimen type.
Embedding & Microtomy Embed tissues accurately and efficiently. Section a minimum of
30 blocks per hour
at required thickness. Prepare the appropriate number of sections/slides per specimen following established guidelines. Maintain high-quality microtomy performance with
no more than one documented pathologist complaint
regarding section quality.
Staining Procedures Perform routine H\&E staining and special stains including AFB, MSN, Gram, and Oro according to laboratory procedures. Multitask staining workflows to ensure timely slide production and efficient processing.
Slide Preparation & Distribution Coverslip slides at a minimum rate of
3 slides per minute . Accurately label, review, and distribute slides to the pathologist in a timely manner.
Clinical Support Assist with liver biopsies, fine-needle aspirations, and retrieval of fresh specimens in various areas such as: Main Laboratory Cryostat Lab NGI Suite CT Suite Electron Microscopy
Data & Troubleshooting Perform inquiry functions (technical, specimen number, and result-related). Identify and troubleshoot technical issues to ensure smooth workflow and specimen integrity.
Qualifications Required:
HT(ASCP) or HTL(ASCP) certification. Demonstrated competence in embedding, microtomy, routine staining, and special stains. Strong attention to detail, ability to multitask, and commitment to quality and patient care.
