Position Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Director of Finance to support our senior leadership in managing and overseeing all aspects of financial reporting, treasury, accounts payable and receivable, and operational KPI dashboards. The Director of Finance will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial statements, compliance with accounting standards, support operations, and help optimize financial processes.
Key Responsibilities: Financial Reporting:
Assist in the preparation and review of financial statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements. Generate accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports. Systems and Security
: Owing financial reporting systems and maintaining ERP platforms, data integrity, cyber security etc. Accounting preparation:
Oversee and maintain the general ledger, including the preparation and review of journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and adjustments. Ensure timely and accurate recording of transactions. Enhance and Oversee the Accounting close process:
Implement procedures to enhance the existing close process and ensure a tighter close timeframe to ensure more accurate data is provided to stakeholders. Funding Round Assistance:
Put together financial models, investor decks, and data rooms, compile all data requested by investors, and steward the funding rounds. Account reconciliation:
Perform detailed account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies. Ensure timely and accurate reconciliation of all Balance Sheet accounts. Tax Support:
Assist with tax preparation by providing necessary documentation and explanations to our external tax preparers. Ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements. Budgeting and Forecasting:
Assist in managing budgets and maintaining financial forecasts . Analyze financial performance against budgets and provide actionable insights. Financial analysis:
Conduct financial analysis to support decision-making processes. Provide insights into financial performance and identify areas for improvement. Compliance:
Ensure compliance with tax regulations and other statutory requirements by completing a monthly / quarterly sales tax nexus analysis, and ensuring the company is up to date on all relevant licenses and taxes (state sales tax, property tax, franchise tax, business license, etc). Remit sales tax to the state of Virginia monthly by the 20th of each month. Insurance
: Handle contract negotiations with insurance company, COI issues, and additional items that come up. Payroll
: Responsible for overseeing payroll and related compliance Contracts
: Assist + manage contract negotiations and sign off on contracts/ order forms. Legal
: Work with our external corporate counsel on issues as they arise. Price Negotiation
: Lead price negotiations, working with supply chain team or otherwise, and ensure that Babylon Micro-Farms is getting the best pricing possible. Process Improvement:
Identify opportunities for process improvements within the finance department and implement best practices to enhance efficiency and accuracy. Special Projects:
Participate in special projects and initiatives as assigned by the CEO including system upgrades and process redesigns. KPI Dashboard:
Maintain and update the KPI Dashboard used by management to analyze business trends. Develop additional KPIs and routinely run & report on KPIs to analyze company margins, AR Turnover, inventory turnover, and other key company metrics.
Qualifications: Education:
Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA certification or MBA preferred. Experience:
Minimum of 5+ years of experience in accounting or finance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory, accounting manager, or assistant controller + role. Technical Skills:
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, or Business Central) and advanced Excel skills. Familiarity with financial reporting and analysis tools. Babylon uses Microsoft Dynamics Business Central
Knowledge:
Strong understanding of GAAP, financial regulations, and internal control frameworks. Soft Skills:
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure. Other:
