Location:

Salary:

$159,000 - $185,000 annually.

Job Summary:

Lead and manage a team of attorneys, paralegals, and legal professionals in a specialized practice group. Serve as the primary subject‑matter expert and senior leader of the group, setting organizational strategies aligned with the institution’s mission. Proactively represent the Office of the General Counsel in the campus and surrounding community as a solutions provider. Provide input to the General Counsel on key priorities, resource allocation, and strategic goals. Deliver legal advice, counsel, training, and risk management to protect the Institute’s legal interests.

Responsibilities

Proactively identify legal issues and provide counsel to senior administration.

Determine needs for campus‑wide education and training.

Conduct presentations on legal issues and processes.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Engage stakeholders to promote the mission and services of the Office of the General Counsel.

Manage and provide leadership and guidance to staff attorneys, paralegals, and legal assistants.

Provide input on key priorities, resource allocation, and strategic goals.

Interact with external counsel, the State Attorney General’s Office, and the Board of Regents on legal matters.

Prepare and negotiate key documents, contracts, policies, and related agreements.

Serve on committees, as assigned, to provide legal input and guidance.

Required Qualifications

Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.

Member of the Georgia Bar or ability to become licensed to practice law in Georgia within 12 months of hire.

Ten (10) years of related legal experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Skills in communication, negotiation, strategy development, multi‑tasking, and relationship building.

Experience in higher education and research‑oriented legal practice.

Leadership experience and ability to mentor legal staff.

Other Information

This is a supervisory position with no financial responsibilities.

Position does not require driving, travel, security clearance, or a purchasing card.

Background check required: Position of Trust + Education + Credit.
