Job Summary Lead and manage a team of attorneys, paralegals, and other legal professionals within the office of the General Counsel. Serve as the primary subject‑matter expert and senior leader for the Employment and Litigation practice group, setting organizational strategy to support the institution’s mission. Proactively represent the Office of the General Counsel in the campus and surrounding community as a solutions provider. Provide input on key priorities, resource allocation, and strategic goals. Advise, counsel, train, and lead staff on legal requirements, best practices, and risk‑management strategies. Ensure that the Institute’s operations remain within the scope of established law and policy, and protect the Institute’s legal interests.

Responsibilities

Proactively identify legal issues and provide counsel to senior administration in specialized higher‑education law areas.

Determine campus‑wide education and training needs.

Conduct presentations on legal issues and processes for institute management and staff.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Engage with stakeholders to promote the mission and services of the Office of the General Counsel; collaborate on coordinated projects.

Manage and provide leadership and guidance to staff attorneys, paralegals, and legal assistants; mentor and support professional development.

Provide input to the General Counsel on key priorities, resource allocation, and strategic goals.

Interfere independently with external legal counsel and attorneys, including the State Attorney General’s Office and Board of Regents.

Prepare and negotiate key documents, contracts, policies, and other legal instruments.

Serve on committees as assigned, providing legal input and guidance.

Qualifications

Educational Requirements:

Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.

Other Required Qualifications:

Member of the Georgia Bar or ability to obtain a Georgia license within twelve months of hire.

Required Experience:

Minimum of ten (10) years of relevant legal experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Strong skills in communication, negotiation, strategy development, multi‑tasking, and relationship building.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

Leadership and mentoring experience; advanced knowledge of higher‑education law and risk management.
