EF High School Exchange Year
Unit Leader – EF Welcome Camp, 2026
EF High School Exchange Year is seeking positive, energetic, and responsible individuals to work with international high school exchange students at its Welcome Camp program held on the EF Academy campus in Thornwood, NY. The program provides participating exchange students with a memorable New York City experience, valuable communication skills, and strong bonds before they embark on their high school exchange year.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and mentor the Camp Counselors team, ensuring smooth operation of a fast‑paced summer program
Oversee campus preparation, ensure classroom/activity supplies are stocked
First point of contact for Camp Counselors’ questions or concerns
Support Counselors and empower them to manage their groups each week
Coordinate senior staff and all‑staff trainings and other program logistics
The Ideal Candidate
Experience working with and managing peers
Strong ability to assess interpersonal dynamics to build cohesive teams
Comfortable providing feedback to students and staff
High emotional intelligence and empathy
Ability to lead small and large‑scale group activities
"Nothing is impossible" attitude, willing to go the extra mile
Exceptional problem‑solving skills with ability to make decisions quickly
Stamina for high‑energy and quality work over an extended time
Comfortable in an airport, assisting students with check‑in processes
Passion for cultural exchange, travel, and education
Familiar with the exchange student experience and community
Previous experience working at Welcome Days
If 21+, comfortable driving minivans; preference for 15‑passenger vans
Program Schedule EF Welcome Camp is broken up into four (4) sessions:
Senior Staff arrivals: July 12
Senior Staff training: July 13‑16
All‑Staff Training: July 17‑22
Week 1: July 23‑28
Week 2: July 30‑Aug 4
Week 3: Aug 6‑11
Week 4: Aug 13‑18
Staff departures: Aug 19
Compensation & Benefits Unit Leaders will work approximately 45‑60 hours per week at $17 per hour. Overtime will be paid time‑and‑a‑half. All summer roles include room and board. Staff must complete two online training modules and attend pre‑arrival training.
All staff are required to complete two online training modules to familiarize themselves with the EF High School Exchange Year program and attend training prior to students’ arrival.
