Cost Accountant - Inventory Focus Employment Type:

Full-Time

About the Role We are seeking a detail‑oriented

Cost Accountant with strong inventory experience . In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate product costing, analyzing inventory variances, supporting month‑end close, and partnering closely with operations, supply chain, and finance leaders. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of cost accounting in an inventory‑driven environment and thrives in a fast‑paced, collaborative setting.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain and update standard costs for materials, labor, overhead, and finished goods.

Perform routine inventory analysis, including purchase price variances, production variances, and usage variances.

Conduct monthly, quarterly, and annual inventory reconciliations across all locations.

Support physical inventory and cycle count processes; investigate discrepancies and implement corrective actions.

Analyze manufacturing and inventory transactions to ensure accurate financial reporting.

Prepare journal entries related to cost of goods sold (COGS), inventory adjustments, and accruals.

Collaborate with operations and supply chain to understand cost drivers and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Assist with budgeting and forecasting related to cost of goods, inventory levels, and margin analysis.

Develop and maintain cost accounting reports to support decision‑making for leadership.

Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal controls.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.

3+ years of experience in cost accounting, inventory accounting, or manufacturing accounting.

Strong knowledge of inventory costing methods (standard cost, FIFO, weighted average, etc.).

Experience working in an inventory‑driven or manufacturing environment.

Advanced Excel skills; familiarity with ERP systems (NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, or similar) preferred.

Strong analytical abilities and a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Ability to work cross‑functionally and communicate complex data clearly.

Preferred Attributes

CPA, CMA, or progress toward certification.

Experience supporting process improvements or system implementations.

Ability to thrive in a growing, fast‑paced environment with evolving priorities.
