Base pay range $190,000.00/yr - $190,000.00/yr

Duties & Responsibilities SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assumes 24/7 responsibility of service to ensure provision of quality patient care.

Oversees the development, revision and implementation of service specific policies, procedures and protocols to assure compliance with current evidence-based practices per AWHONN.

Participates in development and implementation of the philosophy, objectives and policies of the Nursing department

Monitors departmental metrics and compliance including but not limited to exclusive breastfeeding, Baby Friendly initiatives, patient identification, high risk medications (Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate) titration

Collaborates with Chief of Service(s) in identifying service specific goals based on the Strategic Pillars and reports out performance and interventions aimed at attainment of goals

Collaborates with Chief of Service(s) in the development and implementation of interdisciplinary policies, procedures and protocols.

Organizes the service specific Nursing table of organization to delineate lines of authority, functional responsibilities and channels of communication.

Reviews staffing with ADNs, utilizing AWHONN and DOH staffing guidelines to ensure patient safety and the delivery of quality patient centered care

Assesses service needs and implements measures to attain standards and recommendations

Ensures utilization of evidence based practices in the delivery of patient centered maternal/child healthcare

Evaluates quality of care rendered to patients through chart reviews, reports from quality assurance, and patient relations department, as by observations during purposeful leadership rounds

Ensures timely follow up and oversight for identified departures from established policies, procedures and protocols

Ensures adherence with corrective action plans

Provides guidance to off tour nursing administrators to ensure continuity of care

Assumes responsibility for directing the evaluation of personnel performance.

Assists in preparation of budget for nursing

Monitors and manages vacancy within department including utilization of overtime, agency, temporary and per diem staff

Promotes inter and intra-departmental cooperation and collaboration.

Assists in problem resolution that may arise involving the Nursing Department.

Participates in developing and maintaining sound relationship with community and professional groups.

Conducts and/or attends meetings and committees as assigned both within the hospital and with external agencies

Promotes personal and professional growth as evidenced by certification in specialty and participation in seminars and conferences with service specific focus (inpatient maternity, high risk maternity, fetal monitoring, etc.)

Attends conferences and shares information with staff.

Maintains standards of Baby Friendly designation utilizing patient centered approach.

Functions effectively within the organizational structure.

Escalates safety concerns to CNO in a timely manner

Assists the administrator in maintaining a system of records and reports.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Licensed and currently registered to practice as a Professional Nurse in New York State; and,

A Master's Degree in Nursing Administration or an equivalent field, and a minimum of four years of high-level responsible experience in nursing administration, three years of which shall have been in a hospital; or,

A satisfactory equivalent. However, all candidates must be licensed and currently registered to practice as a Professional Nurse in New York State.

Department Preferences

Educational Level: MS/MSN/MHA/MBA

Certification in specialty or leadership preferred

Knowledgeable In: Labor & Delivery, Maternal Child Health Nursing, Time and attendance management, Customer Service/Service Recovery, TeamStepps

Years Of Experience: 5 years minimum, progressive leadership role(s)
