The DSP provides direct care to persons served in the residential program. The DSPs are responsible for implementing IPP goals and following the Individual Support Plan (ISP). The DSPs must treat people with respect and dignity and provide a safe environment that contributes to the therapeutic milieu of each person receiving services. The DSP is responsible for assisting people with reaching their goals to include teaching daily living skills, assisting people with accessing community resources and having a presence in their community advocating on behalf of the person and helping in the achievement of the persons' goals.
Responsibilities
Complies with all DDS and DC Cares Center Policies and procedures
DSPs will complete all DDS Policy trainings and ensure that they follow all policy guidelines while providing care to persons
Completes and maintains current trainings as required by DDS and DC Cares Center
Complies with all DC Cares Center operations policies and procedures
Implements activities to ensure responsiveness to persons' needs
Ensures consultants and visitors sign in on sign in sheets
Observes consultants interaction with clients, implement programs as outlined by consultant and participate in trainings
Ensure attention to persons' human rights, protection, and safety
Responds to emergencies by following DC Cares Center Emergency and non-emergency protocols.
Ensures documentation of incident reports and forwards to residential managers and program coordinator
Ensure persons are aware of their rights and holds at a minimum 1 house meeting per month to review these rights in the most effective manner for persons' level of functioning
Implements persons choices (RE: mail, telephones, use of money, religious practices, right to choose own clothing, possessions, visitors, companions, active listening)
Accompanies persons to medical appointments and ensure that appointments are met
Provides quality services and supports for all persons
Implements activities to ensure persons quality of life and satisfaction
Implements ISP, IPP and behavior plans
Implements active treatment and support techniques in providing care to persons
Check adaptive equipment ensure cleanliness and are in good working condition
Accompanies persons on community outings, recreational and leisure activities
Ensures maintenance of the properties environment to enhance the quality of life for persons, consultants and guest
Ensure proper amount of food is in the facility at all times to fulfill nutritional requirements
Complete shift checklist and all task outlined in the checklist daily and on every shift
Reports any malfunction of equipment immediately to Residential Manager
Checks and ensures water temperatures, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, and sprinklers meet requirements
Conduct monthly fire drills
Ensures that during inclement weather and other emergencies all preventative and safety precaution activities are implemented as outlined in company policies
Collects all mail from properties relative to utility bills, court notices, etc and submit to Residential Manager
Ensure the cleanliness of the home by cleaning all areas of the home to include vents, running boards and all living space
Performs other duties as assigned and necessary for the effective operations of all program activities
Qualifications The DSP requires a minimum of a High School diploma or GED equivalent however some college education is preferred. (The applicant must be able to produce a copy of their high school diploma.)
The DSP must be CPR and First Aid certified and MUST be able to pass a criminal background check.
Must have a PPD/TB test within the last 90 days of application.
Must be over 18 years of age. Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English fluently.
