We are hiring a Senior Strategy Specialist to join our Strategy & Innovation team in Chicago. This role is a senior individual contributor position designed for a strategic subject‑matter expert who thrives in complex problem‑solving environments and can independently drive high‑impact strategic initiatives across the organization.
The successful candidate will bring strong analytical rigor, structured thinking, and executive‑level communication skills, along with the ability to translate strategy into actionable, measurable outcomes. This role requires a high degree of autonomy, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to partner effectively with senior stakeholders across the business.
Key Responsibilities
Independently structure complex analyses, frame strategic problem statements, and develop data‑driven, root‑cause solutions
Design and steer executive‑level strategy meetings and workshops, structuring agendas, framing key questions, synthesizing inputs in real time, and driving clear decisions and next steps
Develop and support enterprise‑level strategic plans, recommendations, and business cases aligned with organizational priorities
Lead discrete strategic initiatives and workstreams end‑to‑end, managing timelines, deliverables, and change‑management considerations with limited supervision
Drive strategy execution from concept development through proof‑of‑concept testing and pilot implementation, in close collaboration with cross‑functional partners
Build robust financial models and scenario analyses to support strategic decision‑making and investment prioritization
Conduct in‑depth market, industry, and competitive research to identify trends, risks, and growth opportunities, synthesizing qualitative and quantitative insights
Evaluate the financial and strategic attractiveness of new business models, market entry opportunities, and strategic investments
Contribute to the clear communication of HDI’s strategy to senior management and key stakeholders, ensuring alignment and shared understanding across the organization
Serve as a trusted strategic advisor and subject‑matter expert to internal partners on strategy, transformation, and innovation topics

Development and refinement of strategic frameworks, tools, and methodologies
Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, finance, engineering, or a related field
Master’s degree (MBA or equivalent) preferred
5+ years of relevant experience in management consulting, corporate strategy, corporate development, business development, or related strategic roles
Demonstrated ability to operate as a senior individual contributor with minimal oversight
Strong strategic thinking skills with a track record of translating insights into actionable recommendations
Advanced analytical, diagnostic, and problem‑solving capabilities with a pragmatic execution mindset
High level of persistence, ownership, and adaptability in driving complex initiatives to completion
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including executive‑level presentations
Proficiency in financial modeling, data analysis, and scenario planning
Strong project management and stakeholder management capabilities
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and related analytical tools
Experience influencing and collaborating with senior leaders and cross‑functional teams
Experience in or strong understanding of the Commercial Insurance industry preferred
Experience with BI and data visualization tools beneficial
Professional certifications (e.g., PMP, CFA, or relevant industry certifications) are a plus but not required
Compensation The base salary range for this position is$120,000- $150,000 plus eligibility for a performance‑based annual bonus. Actual compensation will be based on a variety of factors including experience, education, and location.
